Details:
Tanya Mei-Tai Coon, is a singer-songwriter, from Colorado. She grew up in Southern California and moved to Colorado 8 years ago. Tanya lives with her husband, David J Coon. You can find the two performing at Unity Church and United Church of Religious Sciences. Her husband presents a Medical Qigong workshop while Tanya plays the piano and sings her original music for the congregations. She enjoys performing at weddings and special events. She also performs monthly at The Brookside Inn Nursing home in Castle Rock, Colorado.
I began my love for music at a very early age. My mom said that as early as 18 months I would make it clear to her that I wanted her to put the It’s A Small World record on the stereo for me again and again. I would sing it before I could clearly talk. It would sound like “It’s a “mall” “mall” world”.
My mom bought an inexpensive keyboard when I was around four. We all fiddled with it enough that she and my dad eventually bought us an organ and then a piano. I started taking piano lessons when I was around 11. I did not really enjoy the slow pace of piano lessons. I really learned more from my friends and my sister, Alicia (also a singer/songwriter/pianist). We would play and sing for hours whenever we’d get the chance.
My grandmother was a big fan of mine. She surprised me one day with my first really big gig at The State Fair in Maine (the longest running state fair in the nation) on the closing day of the horse races. I sang the Star Spangle Banner acapella in front of thousands of people and realized what an amazing support I felt when everyone stood and placed their hands over their heart.
My songs come from my real life experiences. When my boyfriend, Oliver, drowned in a Kayaking accident in Equador, (December 14, 1998) composing and playing music was my way of healing. I feel that my music is my gift to all people and especially those who are healing something important in their lives.
I have worked steadily for the past 37 years to overcome my fears of performing. At times I felt I was facing death. Crazy how our minds work.
In August David and I performed at Unity Boulder Church in front of about 500 people and I was excited and somehow grounded at the same time. It felt so “right” to be sharing my music with the world.
I have been composing these 12 songs over the past 9 years. The first song Waves was inspired by Oliver a few weeks after his passing. I soon had the vision for a full CD. I did not realize it would take me this much time to compose, record and release my first CD and yet somehow the timing is just right. I just found out three days ago that David and I are going to have our first baby around August 2nd, 2008. A time for births…
So with Great Love and Compassion I release my music to the world. May you and your loved ones remember how loved you are and how absolutely certain it is that you have a profound purpose and destiny to be filled.
The feeling you convey through song and composition add such wonderful
energy to the world and intimacy to the moment.

This is a huge accomplishment. You''re living out your dreams and offering beautiful music to the world. I am so impressed... Most people sing to their child after they are born, some sing to them in the womb; you are the only one I know who sings to the universe for a child. Bless your heart Tanya,

An amazing CD! Your piano and singing are divine! It is very healing music. I can see the dolphins spinning as I listen to (the spinner dolphin song). Your music transforms so much for me.
