After settling in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lee''s earlier performing and experience included one of Raleigh''s most noted bands featuring now Phillips recording artist (Steve Dobrogosz) and a stint in the Capitol City All-Stars, a big band comprised of the areas High Schools most accomplished musicians. This led to a performance for President Gerald Ford.

Lee''s natural ability combined with disciplined practice found a home at Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1978-1981. Attending Berklee provided Lee with the opportunity to share his ideas and explore many styles with some of the world''s finest players. Lee''s technique and energetic drumming style was well received and allowed him the opportunity to play and perform with Donald Harrison, Dean Brown, Baron Brown, Kevin Eubanks, George Garzone, Steve Vai, Stuart Hamm, Victor Bailey, Jeff Andrews and Mike Stern to name a few.

After leaving Berklee in 1981, Venters toured th US with an established 7 piece band out of Jacksonville, Florida. The band Florida was an extremely respected show band and relocated out of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The band toured through out most of the US, Saudi Arabia, and Aruba.

In 1987 Lee was signed by Blue Quail Records "388 Marlborough Street" which featured Kevin Eubanks, Victor Bailey and Dean Brown. 388 Marlborough Street was added to 256 stations nationwide and was number 12 on R&R (Radio and Records charting). 388 Marlborough Street was also featured on the David Sanborn syndicated radio show.

After touring the East Coast in promotion of "388 Marlborough Street", Lee moved to Los Angeles in search of the right combination of musicians. Lee performed over 25 clinics at over 25 high schools, junior high schools and middle schools throughout the Atlanta metro and in the inner city and surrounding counties. Shortly after landing the teaching position, Lee was asked to join Aquarium Rescue Unit, a band that happened to be one of the hottest bands in the country.

The band was a blind date that all accomplished musicians often dreamed about. The band''s tour schedule would then cover over 30 states and over 250 national dates across the US. August of 1996 after a grueling road schedule, Lee decided to leave the road to persue his teaching and start his family.
