Farzad Farhangi’s third CD, “Rubicon,” continues the musical journey that began with “sandstorm” and was further articulated in “Exile.”
It is a balancing act between the newer sounds of the modern world with an occasional fleeting look back into the subtleties of the traditional music of the Middle East.
It is the anxious glances of a traveler crossing the musical Rubicon separating the contemporary and the traditional. An adventure, further complicated by the recognition that once the threshold is crossed, there can be no return.
In a way, “Rubicon” is a musical depiction of the sense of disconnection that is the struggle at the heart of all those caught between the two worlds.
