And now… Pirates, Thugs, and Thieves
As New Westminster becomes more familiar with the band Kokos, many don''t appreciate the sheer scale of success the band has achieved. The band has released 3 discs in 2007 alone. Selling every copy made, forcing them to go back and reprint. Their tracks are addictive much like their singles (''Bla Bla Bla'', ''General Bacardi'', ''Crazy Humans'' and ''The Day I met the Klepto'').
"Kokos and Friends songs have become anthems to a generation." -Dan Martinez, NEW WEST NEWS.
"Our fan base continues to grow with every performance." -Toby Dika (vocals/trumpet).
It''s this buzz of attention, which inspired Kokos to record their latest album ‘Pirates, Thugs, and Thieves’. Recorded, mixed and mastered in two sessions by Doug Fury at FF Studios.
"We recorded 18 songs in one day which was pretty hard on our drummer Brian. Then we went back and did the mixing and master all in another day!" -Razor (guitarist). "We make party music that people can party to… It''s not depressing and it’s not confusing", deadpans Razor, "It''s Dirty, it''s Original, it''s Rock and Roll… We capture what we sound like Live by recording Live. We keep it simple and non-fabricated."
”In terms of song writing, all members of the band get full input. I am given full freedom to play what ever I can come up with. This is one of the great advantages of being in this band." -Rob Paccagnan (Bassist)
"The more we play with certain ideas the more we just know" stresses Craig (percussion) "You just get tighter as a band if every song is complex. Nobody’s parts can ever be compromised - we''re getting better at our craft."
After many months of honing the Kokos moral, the band is ready to take their new material out on the road to a wider audience: "I really think that Kokos is still best enjoyed in a live setting." Enthuses Brain (Drummer). Summing up the unpretentious approach that has resonated with the residents, Toby concludes: " I just like playing with these guys."
With back-to-back great tunes, Life living lyrics and organic, yet crafted production, expect "Pirates, Thugs, and Thieves" to become a true Rock and Roll classic.
