Among the few works that the composer Schnyder actually created for piano solo, the Grande Sonate in C- major presents itself as a rare jewel that rewards with a surprising variety of melodies and consistent formal development. What we may find special is not only the uncommon use of the 12/16 time in the second movement, but also the way Schnyder conveyed his personal ideas about the fashionable new dance, the Waltz that was at the very time of creation of the sonata (1814) the latest sensation at the Congress of Vienna. Due to its complex counterpoint structures in the final movement, this sonata definitely targets advanced scholars and is bound to enrich any classical-romantic oriented concert performance.
