Rod Mitchell is the joker and the joker is back! Interlaced with smooth backup vocals reminiscent of the British Invasion bands of the 60’s, “Cheesecake” comes quickly on the heels of Rod Mitchell’s mock rap album, “The Ancient Mariner.” “Cheesecake” is gleefully irreverent, a “This Is Spinal Tap” send-up of various musical styles, putting a new spin on punk, disco, new wave, and doo-wop music, that will bring a smile to the face of the most jaded listener. Toe-tapping beats combine with witty lyrics, proving that musical comedy is very much alive, and not only found on the Broadway stage.
In 1994, Rod Mitchell was at the helm of the Connecticut-based band, “The Yooskies.” After the band broke up in 1998, the best of their songs were incorporated into the musical comedy, “Zuleika.” In 2002, taking a break from songwriting, Rod Mitchell came out with an album combining spoken word poetry and sound effects, “Alternate Reality Poetry.” “Cheesecake” is a return to traditional song-writing, with the emphasis again on catchy guitar-driven tunes.
