MP3 Soundpool - Dichotomies & Dreamland
on their second album. soundpool takes you on a psycho-electronic trip through rural deep space and to the depths of your sub-conscious. then emerge to contemplate the paradoxes of everyday life. for fans of shoegaze/dreampop/psychedelic/electronic.
Forming in 2005 Soundpool is…. NYC based 5 piece shoegaze, space rock, audio/visual recording artists with sweet girlie vocals, saturated guitar sounds, lush synth arrangements and a danceable driving rhythm section who prefer to play out with the backdrop of self produced psychedelic visuals whenever they can.
With the release of the mesmerizing On High (Aloft Records/U.S. Quince Records/Japan)- an album that reached the top spot on the Tonevendor charts for well over a month in late 2006 – Soundpool has quietly placed themselves in the center of the new shoegaze/dream pop movement of music. With their mind expanding and ultra compelling psychedelic live shows Soundpool is honored to have shared the stage with such great artists as Robin Guthrie, Ulrich Schnauss, A Place To Bury Strangers, Mahogany, Asobi Seksu, Spectrum, Star, Kyte, Auburn Lull and Butterfly Explosion to name a few.
Live, Soundpool’s rhythm section of James Renard & Dean McCormick lay down a danceable foundation for John Ceparano’s saturated overdriven guitar and Mark Robinson’s ethereal keyboard to float on while Kim Field sings with haunting, otherworldly detachment as she strums on either q-chord or omnichord. They have been fortunate to have taken the stage in many great rooms including: Bowery Ballroom (NYC), Studio B (Brooklyn), Mercury Lounge (NYC), T.T. & The Bears (Boston), World Café (Philadelphia) The Legion/Sonic Cathedral (London, UK), The Croft (Bristol, UK).

Dichotomies & Dreamland
Soundpool’s second full length album “Dichotomies & Dreamland” is in many ways the classic psychedelic album in a post electronica age. Conceptually the album can be broken into two parts… the conscious and subconscious. The conscious world we all experience is a world of inter-relating opposites… up/down, left/right, black/white, good/bad etc. The things that manifest themselves into the reality of our conscious world do of course have their origins in our subconscious. This album is a manifestation of the subconscious into the conscious. Stylistically the album follows a thread that perhaps starts in the mid-sixties when certain pop artists of the day started taking hallucinogens and making records that were a bit more eclectic, cerebral and daring… pushing the boundaries of what popular music could sound like. “Dichotomies and Dreamland” was made in the spirit of that sort of artistic attitude but it’s not overly self indulgent nor deliberately or even necessarily retro per se… it is in fact quite modern in an indie sort of way. Elements of Shoegaze, Electronica, Psychedelic, Dream Pop, Space Rock etc. are all prevalent. Over a year and a half in the making… we hope you enjoy our latest body of work!
dichotomies & dreamland lyrics
welcome to dreamland
la la la la la la welcome to dreamland… la la la la la la where it begins… la la la la la la welcome to dreamland… la la la la la la let it begin
pleasure & pain
through all that''s good and bad we like pleasure... so we don''t have to feel pain... in all we do and don''t and all we treasure... still so much we find to blame... yin and yang... pleasure and pain... two opposites yet one in the same... hand in hand... pleasure and pain... we take the loss along with the gain... with all that comes and goes you can be sure... there''ll be more going around... with all life''s ups and downs... we like pleasure... so we don''t have to feel pain... yin and yang... pleasure and pain... two opposites yet one in the same... hand in hand... pleasure and pain... we take the loss along with the gain
do what you love
all the things that drive our lives... are they painted from truth or lies... do what you love... reverse the normal pattern of... doing what you do not love... reverse the pattern do what you love... it''s so hard to love our lives... but it''s harder to just survive... do what you love... reverse the normal pattern of... doing what you do not love... reverse the pattern do what you love
the divides of march
peace through violence... peace through war... love through hatred... less through more war... the divides of march... have blinded the dove eyed to their dove vision... all the dove eyed on the march have been blinded by the illusion of division... fists through handshakes... truth through lies... sight through blinding... of the eyes... the divides of march... have blinded the dove eyed to their dove vision... all the dove eyed on the march have been blinded by the illusion of division... the divides of march
the only one
time zones apart… so far from here… though your dear… you’re not near… now i’m the lonely one… without you i’ll just go on feeling numb… and tears like rain fall as if there’s no sun… time drags so slow… seem like long ago… i was there as a pair with the only one… without you i’d just go on feeling numb… and tears like rain fall as if there’s no sun… you’re the only one… numb is how i feel without the only one… and tears like rain fall as if there no sun… without you here now i’m lonely one
lush (what becomes you)
i’m lost for words… i can’t begin… hopeless tonight… lush it becomes me… dreamless tonight… what becomes you baby… what becomes you… i’m willing but my will is gone… senseless tonight… lush it becomes me… careless tonight… what become you baby… what becomes you… i’m wondering now what becomes us… what becomes you and me… are you wondering what becomes me… what become you baby… what becomes you… i’m wondering now what becomes us… what becomes you and me… are you wondering what becomes me… what becomes you and me… lush it becomes me… hopeful tonight… what becomes you baby… what become you
so much for that
kindling will burn leaving ember a glow ‘till there ash… so much for that… hopes rise and fade sometimes life’s spark is gone in a flash… so much for that… a sunny day sometimes fades to grey… another day always comes anyway… kindling will burn leaving ember a glow ‘till there’s ash… so much for that… so much for that… so much for that
wide awake in dreamland
thinking… checking… looking… asking… wide awake in dreamland… listening… questioning… wondering… challenging… wide awake in dreamland… so much more to the pie than what’s meeting the eye… while being awake in dreamland… scrutinizing… analyzing… visualizing… realizing…. wide awake in dreamland… so much more to the pie than what’s meeting the eye… while being awake in dreamland… so much more going on than they’d ever let on… while being awake in dreamland
weeping willow days –
when you cry… you always view the world through blurry eyes… and you don’t see clearly… turn off the water works it’s merely… one of those weeping willow days… when you weep… you may as well just cry yourself to sleep… and go off to dreamtime… you’ll feel much better in the meantime… then no more weeping willow days… then no more weeping willow days
close my eyes and sleep –
i close my eyes and go to sleep… and it’s alright… ‘cause i no longer have to weep… and through the darkness comes the light… and it’s alright… as i just dream away the night… dreaming of much greener pastures than what i had before… dreaming of a better life in store… dreaming that i had become all that i’d hope to be… then i awake just in time to see… the strumming birds… and humble bees… and butterflies riding the breeze
why why why do i keep seeing… butterflies… flutter by… butterfly… why why why do i keep seeing… butterflies… flutter by… butterfly… and i wonder… what it means to me… and i wonder… why there seems to be… a veritable plethora... in my periphery… a veritable plethora… in my periphery… why why why do I keeps seeing butterflies… flutter by… butterfly… why why why do I keep seeing butterflies… flutter by butterfly… flutter by… butterfly… flutter by… flutter by… butterfly… flutter by
