With music that fuses old-school soul and piano-man sensibilities with current rock and pop, Todd Alsup''s songs are radio-ready, honest and bursting with groove and personality. Inspired by great singer-songwriters like Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, and Randy Newman along with 60''s soul, classic rock and Motown, Todd''s music feels classic and contemporary all at once.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Todd grew up immersed in music. Hi piano studies began the age of 11 and he instantly fell in love with the process of crafting songs. Upon moving to New York City to study music at NYU, Todd was exposed to the downtown music scene and began to shape the soul influenced pop/rock the defines his sound. Todd''s debut "How I''m Made", a collection of song ideas, was released in 2005 and the single "Unoriginal" received significant attention from the John Lennon Songwriting Competition.
His latest EP, "Facts and Figures" is a labor of love created with Producers James Walsh and Sheldon Steiger of Major Who Media. It features performances from New York''s very best studio musicians including drummer Rodney Howard (Gavin DeGraw, Avril Lavigne), bassist Lee Nadel (Regina Spektor) and guitarists Jimmy Farkas and Joel Hoekstra. Todd is currently wowing audiences performing in downtown NYC clubs with his stripped down acoustic sets and will be performing in 2008 with his full band.
