Torsten Goods – The Vita

Already little boy Torsten Goods liked to look around his Irish mother´s record collection for important figures as Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington and to listen to them for hours.
The 23 years old musician of German-Irish descent was born in Duesseldorf, grew up in Erlangen, lived in Nuremberg and is now resident in Berlin. For some years he took piano lessons, but with 14 he prefers cool Rock and Heavy Metal sounds on the guitar.

In 1998 he meets the Australian guitarist Peter O´Mara, who will finally lead his way to the jazz music. He passes intensive lessons and takes part in numerous workshops,
among them are master classes with Jim Hall and John Scofield in New York. During this period he worked with renowned guitar players like Les Paul, Jack Wilkins, Mike Stern, Peter Bernstein, Howard Alden and Frank Vignola, and he learned a lot of them.

Then he is invited by Bireli Lagrene, the gipsy guitar virtuoso, to Strassburg, who forms his style substantially. In the year 2000 Torsten Goods becomes member of the Bundes-
jazzorchester with Peter Herbolzheimer.

In 2001 he produces his first CD "Manhattan Walls", with important musicians as Tony Lakatos, David Gazarov, Davide Petrocca, Dejan Terzic, Guido May, Jan Eschke, Andreas
Kurz and Rick Keller - the reviews praise them loudly.

In August 2001 he studied as scholarship holder in New York "Jazz and Contemporary Music" at the renowned New School University .

His next important encounter in NYC he would have with Georges Benson, who inspired him to sing.

In the meantime Torsten Goods toured in China, Spain, Ireland and in the USA, he plays house music gigs, in the house band of the New York Gospel church of Reverend Run
(Run DMC), and with leading lights as Les Paul, Seleno Clarke, Duanne Eubanks, Leszek Zadlo and Tony Lakatos.

The CD

Torsten Goods learned with Mike Stern, John Scofield and Bireli Lagrene, he plays with Tony Lakatos, Johannes Enders, Olaf Polziehn, Martin Gjakonovski and Dejan Terzic: the young guitarist and singer Torsten Goods makes a score with his new CD, which has all chances to become very successful.

His quick and easy guitar runs are a tribute to senior stars like George Benson, whose groovy sounds advanced to the cult of Soul Jazz in the sixties and seventies. Torsten Goods accompanies himself - his voice sounds expressive and a little smoky. His patners an this CD are the "Who´s Who" of the German jazz scene.

Jazz classics like "Cry Me A River", "Lover" of Rodgers & Hart, "Bye, Bye Blues" and his own composition "Steppin´", which gave the CD its name, remember of a good classic jazz record, but the 23 years old Torsten Goods adds youthful freshness and a very individual ambitious note to it.

As scholarship holder Torsten Goods studied at the renowned New School University in New York. There he received much appreciation for his concerts. He also played in China and in the USA, among others with stars like Dr. Lonnie Smith, Seleno Clark and the legend Les Paul.

The Just Jazz Guitar Magazine described him as "emerging new force in the jazz scene today".b
