DORASEL BIOGRAPHY Reared in Los Angeles, California by way of 5th Ward Houston, Texas, Dorasel knows hard times intimately. Straight from the home of the Geto Boys, says Dorasel. Life was hard. It was going back and forth to the corner gas station getting jugs of water because the water stayed off and dealing with the lights not working half the time. He came from a large family. His mother was a homemaker and his father worked hard when he could find work. There was a lot of crime, robbing, and drug dealing. At the age of thirteen, Dorasel ran away from home to live with his oldest brother in Los Angeles where he would spend most of his teenage years.
To Dorasel, hip-hop music was a major part of his development as an artist. The young Houston native grew up listening to rap music pioneers, The Geto Boys, N.W.A. and Tupac. He and neighborhood friends would battle each other in freestyle sessions. He was beating on the walls, on tables and standing in the corner in circles just rapping to somebody elses instrumental or vocals. It couldve been a love song, rap song, or whatever. As long as the beat was tight, he was rapping to it.
Dorasel was faced with temptation of the street life that offered false promises of good times and fast money by hustling. In school there was a lot of peer pressure. It was real hard to resist, and as he got a little older, he couldnt resist. Dorasel got mixed up in everything. From robberies, drug dealing to street brawling, you name it, he's done it. Eventually he ran afoul with the law and caught himself a lengthy dose of prison time. He would do something, catch a case, get out on bond and then do something again while out on bond, so he'd have two or three charges on himself at once. After numerous charges and convictions, he ended up doing five years in the state of Texas.
Ironically this bid brought him a change of luck. Within a week of his release from prison in 1998, James Prince signed Dorasel to Rap A Lot Records. Before the ink could even dry on his contract, Dorasel found himself collaborating with the Geto Boys on Da Good Da Bad Da Ugly LP. Later he blazed a track on Rap A Lots Realist Niggas Down South compilation that featured Juvenile,Ludacris,Mystikal,Scarface and Lil'Wayne just to name a few, inwhich Dorasel replaced Tupac on the remix of Homies & Thugs with Master P and Scarface. Both of these appearances earned him high praises from hip hop fans throughout the South, West, and Midwest alike, creating a high demand for his solo debut LP, Unleash The Beast. But fans would have to wait a full three years before their demands would be met.
The album was well worth the wait. Unleash The Beast was produced by a super stellar cast of platinum Hip-Hop producers like 7 (Murder Inc.), Mike Dean (Rap A Lot), Mr. Lee (Rap A Lot), and Ervin Pope. Dorasel's album dropped and at the same time Rap-A-Lot and Virgin records split. Because of this split, Rap-A-Lot was not able to promote the record properly so Dorasel asked for and was given a release from the label.
After his release from the Rap-A-Lot, Dorasel moved back to Los Angeles where he spent day and night in his oldest brothers home perfecting his skills for his new album. His first record was a learning process. Time spent trying to figure out who the hell he was in music. "I needed time to find my own sound", he says. He'd always been told he sounded like Ice Cube meets Scarface. To him that was a great compliment but he'd much rather sound like Dorasel.
Now after being released from prison again on May 10, 2006 from serving a lengthy two year sentence, Dorasel is ready to give fans a new album, entitled Real Talk-the EP. It features multi platinum recording artist E-40. Fans can expect this one to be one of the most well rounded rap albums EVER.
