DriVen is comprised of three members: 24 year-old Blake Bertles on percussion, 22 year-old Josh Toro on the four-string, and 22 year-old Zach Hess on guitar and vox. Before this ultimate incarnation, Josh and Zach had worked previously on a project known as Jynxed Myndz; a band which formed at the start of their high-school careers, featuring Josh on the drums, and lasted until the winter of 04’. After the project came to fruition, Josh and Zach went their separate ways. At the end of the summer in 2005 Josh (still on the drums at this point) and Zach decided to join forces once again in order to try again.
The bass player slot went through a couple of rotations. First, the original bass player from Jynxed Myndz reunited with the group to play some open jam sessions. The group played their first show in over a year and the feeling was unanimous: the band was then appropriately renamed DriVen. Soon after, the bass player left and the spot was filled by a close friend. The band continued to play shows for the next few months before the new bass player left due to other career interests and school. Then, Josh and Zach stumbled onto Blake.
Blake was with another group known as Dendra and immediately took interest in our need for another musician. Josh had already been contemplating a transition to bass since his passion for drumming eroded over time. After seeing Dendra perform, Josh and Zach were greatly impressed with Blake’s drumming style and quickly recruited him into the band. The three of them practiced and rehearsed for a few months in order to familiarize each other with creative drive fueling the band. Then, in January of 07’, the newly formed DriVen took to the South Bend scene gaining early credibility and kudos.
The group has several influences ranging from the Deftones and Snot to the Foo Fighters and Days of the New. This mixing of styles has developed into a melodic yet hard rock sound the captures the essence of all three members. The band currently resides in the Michiana area and can be seen playing at Cheers in Roseland, Indiana. The group has also ventured to Kalamazoo, Indianapolis, Chicago, and has been playing almost every weekend since January, taking a few weeks off here and there. Currently, the band has a set list of 12 songs, all featured on the upcoming album, and many more on the way. Check out https://www.tradebit.com for booking and contact info.
