Barry DiGregorio has been playing guitar music for over 30 years. His love of soundscape and soundtrack music is influenced by Vangelis, Hans Zimmer and Pat Methaney. His musical guitar styles have been influenced by other guitar legends such as Elmore James, Johnny Winter, John Hammond Jr., Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. In 1995 Barry had a home-spun CD of his instrumental guitar music âGuitar Sonata for Zero-G Listenersâ taken into space aboard NASAâs Space Shuttle Discovery. In 2005 he again wrote an original guitar composition âChallengersâ that was also flown into space
Aside from his love of guitar music, Barry is a Research Associate for the Cardiff Center for Astrobiology in Wales, United Kingdom where he studies the possibility of life in the universe. He is also a professional science writer and has worked for many magazines such as Scientific American, New Scientist and Discover to name a few. In 1997 his book Mars: The Living Planet reexamined evidence for the possibility of microbial life on Mars.

Wayne Webb has been fascinated by performance since the age of 4 when his uncle Paul began to teach him how to play harmonica. At age 12, as a self taught drummer, he began playing in various hard rock garage bands and coffee houses in the Niagara Falls NY Area. In 1975, he began playing drums professionally in the Western NY area, most notably with the group Echoes at the Chopin Singing Society club, and the Poor Boy Blues Band. In 1977 Wayne began his studies of the vibraphone with John Roland of the Buffalo Philharmonic. Studies of the vibraphone with John Roland continued until 1985 at which time Wayneâs career as an engineer took him to Lancaster PA and on world travel, including Africa, Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East. It was while on long term assignment in Abu Dhabi when he began composing music for ensemble and orchestra. Wayneâs interest in classical instruments later resulted in him becoming more interested in wind instruments, and he began flute studies with Lana Behrens of Millersville, PA in 2002. Wayne continues study of flute to this day, exploring application of the instrument in sacred music, ensemble, jazz, rock, and soundscape. Wayne has interest in various styles of music and samples of his compositions can be downloaded for free at:
Wayne has been inspired by the masters in the performing arts, including Gary Burton, Miles Davis, Paul Butterfield, and Milt Jackson.

The CD, The Wilderness Beyond is a collection of spontaneous soundscape compositions by Barry DiGregorio and Wayne Webb with guest performances by John Martini. The project began with "Challengers", a piece of music that was written by Barry DiGregorio actually flown in space on NASA'S Discovery Space Shuttle in honor of all fallen astronauts and cosmonauts who gave their lives to get humanity on its journey into the cosmos. The idea of this latest project was inspired by the awe inspiring beauty and mystery of wilderness environments on earth and in the cosmos. The music is performed live and unrehearsed. This spontaneous music involves starting with an idea or theme introduced by one or all the musicians present and then improvising on the idea, mental image or theme while not knowing exactly where the musical journey will begin nor end.
The result is a fabric of music sometimes resembling little of the traditional instruments used. This is especially evident in the sounds created with processed flute and synth guitar work on "Wind and Surf" and "Canyon Passages". Sit back, relax, and open your mind to a musical journey beyond traditional structure and key signature and enter the world of New Wilderness with their debut CD "The Wilderness Beyond".
Track 1, Canyon Passages was inspired by the amazing beauty of canyons in western North America. In this sound scape, synthesizer guitar paints a colorful backdrop for the larger than life sound created with electronically processed flute playing on echoes from the same instrument in stretch time. Unique continuum of melodies predominant in this piece, complete the musical representation of canyons carved out by the persistent forces of nature.
Track 2, Orion, inspired by the hunter from Greek Mythology is a peek into the window of an upcoming collection of compositions to be offered for sale by Barry DiGregorio. Orion contains a wide variation of sound produced by synthesizer guitar, highlighting the imagination of the composer. Vibraphone provides color increasing in dominance as the piece develops. The ever-changing sound depicts scenery changing in time and space.
Track 3, Onset of Dusk depicts the evening sky as the canopy becomes increasingly picturesque, darkness approaches and the sun sets. The scene occurring on Earth as imagined in this piece hints of similarities and differences of a sunset on other celestial bodies in this or the countless other solar systems.
Track 4, Solar Event represents the cyclical and random events observed on our sun. Random events, such as solar storms, are represented in this piece of music by percussion and warble tastefully placed during the recording. This piece is intended to stimulate the imagination.
Track 5, Shortwave begins and concludes with actual sound recorded in the shortwave radio spectrum during influence of changes in the ionosphere and troposphere by charged particles from the sun. The piece was performed as each participant in the recording listened to sounds of shortwave radio atmospheric noise through headphones. You hear what each performer heard but what you hear is not atmospheric noise but rather a representation of it using classical instruments such as guitar, electric fretless bass, synthesizer guitar, flute, vibraphone, and percussion.
Track 6, Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, with its thick orange clouds enshrouding the planet has inspired many since its discovery in 1655 by Christiaan Huygens. A small European designed probe named after Huygens was dropped from the Cassini Saturn mother ship and landed on its surface where it found Titan's surface to be composed of frozen methane and hydrocarbons. It represents a world to many scientists that might have been similar to the early Earth billions of years ago. An open question remains as to whether microbial life could exist there, not by living on liquid water, but instead in oceans, rivers and lakes of liquid methane. This composition progresses without classical development representing the unknown countless wonders of the universe we have yet to grasp.
Track 7, Wind and Surf combines synthesized sounds with sounds of nature resulting in a provocative, mysterious, and interesting tapestry. Sound of Cape May New Jersey wind and surf recorded on a brisk fall morning November 23, 2007 provides the background to the symphony which includes sound representing imaginary vessels and wildlife produced with processed flute.
