From the Miss Teen Florida 1990 on stage at the Apollo Theater in New York, to the first Miss Oakwood College in 1993! Carmen will always be remembered for her heart-warming performance on National television representing Oakwood in the Miss Collegiate African American Pageant held at the Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, FL.
These titles would only set the stage for Carmen later in life. At Oakwood College, Carmen could be heard daily on WOCG-FM doing everything from the Mid-Day News to Prayer-on-the-Line. Also, in the World Re-known Gospel Choir, Dynamic Praise as a singer and director. After graduating in 1994, Carmen moved back to her home in Gainesville, FL were she hosted the Gospel Morning Show - Morning Glory on WWLO-AM. After only six months, Carmen got the attention of the local newspaper which later featured her and her popular show on this small, Black owned, AM radio station. She even shocked her co-workers. Within 2 weeks of the articles released, Carmen, the youngest person on the staff, was then promoted to Program Director.
After 2 years with WWLO, Carmen left Gainesville to pursue her dream of working in television. In 1996, she started at the Fox Kids Network in Tampa, FL. Soon Carmen felt the urge to return to radio.
Carmen became a Media Consultant for radio station WTMG-FM Magic 101.3. In addition, her voice graced the radio airways as "Chocolate Chip". A smooth toned hipster with an entertainment report that informed her audience of all the "happening places to be".
Then, a well-known theater company, The Renaissance Group, sought Carmen for a part in a play to be scheduled at the well-known Acrosstown Reparatory Theater. The Acrosstown Reparatory Theater was North Florida''s premier Black Theater.
Her performance in "Last Momma On The Couch" opened the door for a string of hit plays including, "The Church Fight", Shakin'' The Mess Outta Misery and her lead role in the musical drama "Momma I Wantta Sing".
Carmen''s favorite role was in the hit play, "Shakin'' The Mess Outta Misery" as the character Maggie. Maggie, a sassy singer, wayward and young, was looking for a way out of her past. Carmen received rave reviews.
Carmen felt the need to try and move on to bigger and better things. She learned of a position opening at WEDR FM 99 JAMZ, in Miami, FL. WEDR FM was one of the oldest Urban or Black radio station in the United States. She also applied for the same position at WVEE-FM V-103 in Atlanta. After interviewing with both companies, Carmen got both positions! Feeling led by the Holy Spirit, Carmen took the job in Miami.
Now after 2 years at WEDR FM 99JAMZ, Carmen has no regrets. She is currently working on her next album. When asked about what she really wants to do, Carmen replied "whatever I can do... for as longs as He (God) will let me...!"
