MP3 The Telling - Glimmer Field

Gorgeous vocals immersed in ambient electronic, acoustic soundscapes with poetic lyrics and beautiful melodies

10 MP3 Songs
POP: Ambient Pop, FOLK: Folk Pop

Glimmer Field is The Telling’s third release, and their most ambitious effort, blending classical, experimental, progressive and folk song structures. As in the past, every track is a unique, meticulously crafted soundscape.

In addition to ambient, electronic programming, the album weaves acoustic guitar with cello, viola, trumpet, flugelhorn, vibes and melodica.
The CD opens with the haunting "Flying Solo", an adaptation of Edvard Grieg’s "Norwegian Rustic March". Scandinavian folklore swirl under sonic ear candy and counter melodies.

While some tracks are reminiscent of the ethereal, shimmering atmospherics that grace the Blue Solitaire CD, this album is achingly earthier and even more genuinely heartfelt. Described by critics as “haunting”, “addicting”, and “divinely cerebral”, The Telling grow in their appeal with repeated listening, much like The Blue Nile.

Melt your heart vocals, hinting at a mournful Portishead, meet with orchestral arrangement on the classic blues standard, “As The Years Go Passing By”, sounding perfect for a break-up movie sound track. Cinematic sounds continue on the epic, eight minute “The Arrow Cries”, which includes a Paiute Indian chant. This is poetic melancholy with sparkles of hope, best appreciated in late night headphone reverie.
