MP3 Georgia Mancio - Trapeze

An intriguing blend of jazz standards, Cuban classics, Brazilian samba, Chilean folk and Italian pop.

12 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Vocals, LATIN: Latin Jazz

"Remember the name because Georgia Mancio is just this side of a breakthrough into the mainstream. One Jonathan Ross show or a Later with Jools Holland, and she''ll be the talk of the town. Already a cult heroine on the jazz circuit, Mancio''s eclectic sophomore set finds her globe-trotting. She sings seamlessly in English, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian, and the setlist includes Chilean folksong, Cuban jazz, Italian pop and South American samba. Into the mix are thrown Lionel Bart''s Where Is Love, Rodgers & Hart classic My Heart Stood Still and even a clever cover of David Bowie''s Life On Mars. She''s a versatile virtuoso!"

"The word has been out for a couple of years that Georgia is someone to watch out for and her new album shows why... Marvel at the way Mancio''s rhythmic grasp never fails her in such a variety of groove and swing. She is, without question, the real thing."

"It''s been five years since Georgia Mancio''s debut ''Peaceful Place''. If that album showcased her clarity and lightness of touch, then ''Trapeze'' - the singer''s new, wilfully eclectic 12-track collection - serves to underline yet more of her fine qualities. Perhaps most impressive of all is her versatitlity across a range of seettings. The album jumps from Jobim/Moraes to Lionel Bart...to Stanley Turrentine... without ever once losing its footing.... A crisply articulated ''My Heart Stood Still illustrates her rock-solid sense of time, while gorgeously seductive interpretations of ''Gracias a la Vida'' and ''Life on Mars?'' lifts the lid on her capacious imagination and storytelling gift."

"Georgia Mancio''s a force to be reckoned with ... her musicality and inspired choice of material mark her out as an instrumentalist''s vocalist, and one to watch."

"An airy, gossamer voice and a penchant for Latin rhythms and unexpected song choices...[This] lovely album…features her in... classy company."

"The award-winning young jazz singer Georgia Mancio has a wonderful snese of melody and rhythm. She''s a class act whose second album showcases her dizzying talent. Her Anglo-Latino background is evident as she switches with ease from English to Italian to Spanish and Portuguese. Nowhere else does Chilean folk rub shoulders with Rodgers and Hart standards."

"Georgia Mancio’s second album is ambitiously wide-ranging but coheres courtesy not only of the intelligence with which she deals with a lyric… but also the sureness of her delivery and the cogency of the various songs’ arrangements... A singer whose classy but consistently approachable live act...is as thoroughly enjoyable as her albums."

"Absolutely beautiful"

"One of the best jazz vocal albums in a long time"

"Delicately beautiful"

JOHN FORDHAM, THE GUARDIAN (8 March 2008) ****
"A performer of character, conviction, and relaxed virtuosity…an inventive straight-ahead improviser...Mancio’s music sounds both purposeful and chilled at the same time...[She] has occupied the fringes for a few years without quite finding the spotlight, but she sounds more than ready for it now."

"Her voice is sweet and small but she has learned to slip it across with the lethal cool of a Mafioso stiletto...[and] a gravitas that recalled ...Chet Baker and Georgie Fame...Georgia Mancio left the crowd begging for more."

Georgia Mancio’s music is an intriguing reflection of her Anglo-Latino background: predominantly a standards singer, she also specialises in South American and European music and is a lyricist. As a child she played classical flute, went on to train as an actor and film-maker before returning to her musical roots (her Italian grandparents were a concert pianist and opera singer respectively) to study jazz and voice. Since turning professional in 2000, she has worked in various musical outfits and this year will be embarking on her second U.K. Jazz Services Tour in support of her new album, Trapeze, with her band: Gareth Lockrane, John Pearce, Dave Green, Dave Ohm and Anselmo Netto.
A natural, instinctive musician with a pure, honeyed tone, her deceptively simple delivery is always shot through with sincerity and gravitas. This supremely elegant voice, rich and bittersweet has impressed peers, press and audiences alike making Georgia Mancio a rising talent on the British and European jazz scenes.
