Have you been Filtered?

Filtered are a rock/pop band from the UK. Like all bands, they reckon they can''t be pigeon-holed, but if you like crunchy guitars and lyrical songs with catchy choruses, this could be your thing. Think Husker Du, R.E.M. and Teenage Fanclub...

Kabir Sheikh (guitar/vocal) and Fraser Whitehead (bass) had played in various bands together since 1998. In December 2000, striking out alone and with their first gig just weeks away, they quickly decided on the name Filtered. They recorded their debut album, "New Moon", as a duo in January 2001. Their first review in the ''Inspecting the Troops'' fanzine said ''Filtered have plenty of strong melodies. "Correspondence", "Rain" and "Steering Wheel" are all brilliant songs, played by fine musicians... we may very well have a new force to be reckoned with in the genre.'' The full review can be found at https://www.tradebit.com

In the November 2001, the band signed an agency deal and began performing gigs all over the UK.

In January 2002, their debut album received its first radio airplay in the London area. Radio airplay then followed in Germany, the US and Holland.

The band embarked on their first tour in summer 2002, taking in pubs and clubs in England and Wales. Shortly after this, drummer Nick Gipson was recruited and the band quickly recorded a pop EP, "Nicotine and Tar".

Of the "Nicotine and Tar" EP, reviewers said ''a big improvement. The band is clearly starting to develop an identity of their own. "On the Radio" is a cheerful powerpop tune, "Critic" a well-arranged song with a strong melody, nice guitar picking and a convincing vocal and "Hours Down" a somewhat demure, acoustic pop song that is vaguely reminiscent of Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout. Yummy.'' ("Inspecting the Troops") and ''uplifting pop-rock (with) some nice vocal interplay...it''s nice to see a traditional line-up daring to be uplifting rather than mining melancholy. Certainly potential here for daytime radio play.'' ("Drowned in Sound" - full review: https://www.tradebit.com

Filtered''s next album is currently in pre-production (ie they''re still learning the songs!) and they plan to record it at the end of the 2003.

Guitarist magazine rated Kabir Sheikh''s songwriting 4 stars out of a possible 5, describing the songs as ''a smart piece of pop... There''s an impressive hook that runs throughout the whole thing and certainly proves the man''s versatility.''
