Details:
Marble Falls, Texas ~ The Dust Devils are fronted by founding members Kevin Higgins (vocals/guitars) and Barbara Malteze (vocals, keys, mandolin). Theirs is a love story written on the backroads of Texas.

Over the years, Higgins and Malteze have carved themselves a comfortable niche in the Texas Music Scene, traveling from Port Aransas to Terlingua, performing in every little honky tonk and biker bar along the way. Receiving comparisons to Townes Van Zant, Patterson Hood, Robert Earl Keen, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, (which Higgins quietly dismisses), he has gone from being one of the “best kept secrets” amongst Texas songwriters to
“…quite possibly the next great Texas songwriter…” –Dave Pilot, (https://www.tradebit.com).

Kevin Higgins, a native Texan from El Paso, is no newcomer to making acceptance speeches. In the course of his career thus far, he has been a finalist in the 2000 New Folk contest (with the song “Angel of Dixie”), earning himself a spot on the Main Stage at the 2001 Kerrville Folk Festival; his solo CD, “Dark Side of the Barn” won “Album of the Year” at the 2000 Hill Country Music Awards; he has had his song “Company Time” placed in a controversial independent film, “A Day without a Mexican”, (with the soundtrack released on EMI) and just recently, Higgins was responsible for writing all the material on The Dust Devils’ sophomore CD, (Gathering Dust), which swept the 2006 Texas Music Awards. Higgins went on to win 2nd place in the coveted 2006 B.W. Stevenson songwriting contest held in Dallas, (just to keep the critics honest).

Barbara Malteze met Higgins in Los Angeles, where she fronted her own blues band.

Prior to that time, Barbara was the leader of her successful, self-titled, heavy-metal band, Malteze. Back when Cashbox was the voice of the music industry, they wrote, "Barbara does know how to pump out ripping vocals." Malteze''s reputation, (as one of the most-admired female/heavy metal vocalist/songwriter), is still very much alive in Europe, as evidenced by feature interviews in such publications as Metal Maidens Magazine (Netherlands), and Heavy Magazine (Germany); culminating in a 2006 worldwide vinyl LP release of “Count Your Blessings” (Femetal Records). Malteze has also received her share of accolades, including headlining the 18th Annual Janis Joplin B''day Bash at the Civic Center in Joplin''s hometown of Port Arthur, Texas; and winning “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the 2006 & 2007 Texas Music Awards, for two years in a row. This was an unprecedented feat, as no recipient has ever repeated in the same category.

“...when two individuals this talented come together, the end result is pure magic...”-Cheryl Harvey Hill (CountryStarsOnline)

The Dust Devils returned from their 4th Annual “Coastal Bender” , (a huge fan-appreciation party held in Port Aransas, TX), where they released their most recent cd, "Change in the Weather", (recorded in a week''s time). The critics have been very complimentary of the new disc,
“...a vital and vibrant record...shimmeringly beautiful at times, menacingly driving at others...this is as real as it gets...” (https://www.tradebit.com)

Most recently, "Change in the Weather" charted at #18 on the Roots Music Report , staying there for several weeks.

The fans, (who call themselves “Stormchasers”), have been describing The Dust Devils as "the Led Zeppelin of Texas", because the band has a distinct way of "genre bending." They can lay down a hot honky tonk number; a ripping 70''s rocker; then a bluegrass groove; scream thru a blues tune; caress a ballad, you never know what to expect with this group. And they do it all with energy, feel, abandon and talent. This is “Western Electric”...no one else is kickin'' up dirt this hard, creating their own place in the melting pot that folks call "Texas music."

Greg Patterson, DJ, KHYI 95.3, (Dallas), says it best, "...the Dust Devils are the Cinderella band of Texas..."
