Details:
Israeli-born percussionist, dancer & independent record producer Guy Schalom returns with another Baladi masterpiece.

Combing fiery Arabic percussion solos, soulful, intricately woven accordion improvisations The Bellydance Diaries Soundtrack will make you want to dance non-stop.

Baladi - the street music of Egypt - emerged in the early 20th Century through migration of rural musicians to the cities of Cairo & Alexandria. This “cultural collision” exposed traditional folk musicians to a Western sensibility, creating a newly sophisticated hybrid genre. Baladi holds improvisation and interplay at its core.

Guy Schalom is best known for his work with Klezmer-revivalists the Klezmer Alliance as well as The Klezmatics, David Krakauer and Egyptian stars Natacha Atlas, The Musicians Of The Nile and Mahmoud Fadl.

In this ensemble, Guy unites some of Egypt''s most renowned master musicians: including legendary accoirdionist “Sheik” Taha and Ney (Arabic flute) virtuoso Louai Elhenawi. Guy’s recent CD Baladi Blues was described by fROOTS magazine as “Outstanding, fresh and compelling as well as technically superb”.
