Latest Freddy Powers News:

"Unforgettable" Merle Haggard released December 14, 2004 on Capital Records was Produced by Freddy Powers along with song writing and business partner Executive Producer Bill McDavid with the exception of four songs which Merle Haggard produced himself "Gypsy", "Stardust", "Goin'' Away Party", and "What Love Can Do" though Powers had a hand in the production of those cuts as well, as he sang the tracks on "Stardust" and "Gypsy" with the band before Merle''s vocals were laid as well as over seeing the strings instruments on all. Powers not new to producing with being a co-producer with Willie Nelson on Nelson''s Platinum selling album "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Freddy has always admired Merle''s vocals and style of singing and being from the traditional Pop era himself and knowing Merle''s admiration for Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra''s choice of music Freddy convinced Merle to go into the studio and record this album a long time dream of Powers. Powers pretty much chased Merle from one studio to another to record this album. Anytime Merle was in a studio anywhere whether it be Nashville, Merle''s studio in Redding or Freddy''s hometown outside Austin in Pedernales Studio''s, Powers was bound and determined to put this album together. So through many hours, miles, locations and many musicians this alum was made. Now Powers says he is proud of his work on this album and happy for the world to hear the singer he already knew Haggard to be. Merle is and will always be known as a great Country singer and poet to the common man but he also can sing a love song like no other too. All the songs on the album with the exception of two were written by 1969 and recorded by many performers over the years. But over a friendly pool game with Willie Nelson Powers had mentioned he was having a hard time finding songs that he (Nelson) hadn''t already recorded or hadn''t been sang to death by so many other singers when Willie replied yes but they hadn''t been sang by the Hag. As for as the two originals "What Love Can Do" written by Merle and his wife Theresa which came close to being and was Powers second choice for the album title "Cry Me A River" being the first. "Still Missing You" the only other original was written by Powers and has proven to be a perfect fit to this album with getting good a bit of air play. An album to be in any Merle Haggard fans collection.

Freddy himself also has a new cd out "My Great Escape" recorded on Hag/Smith Records distributed by Smith Music was produced by Merle Haggard with Powers co-producing his album. The album recorded with four members of Merle Haggard''s Strangers Kevin Williams, Scotty Joss, Jeff Ingram, and Doug Colosio as well as Merle himself on guitar along with Django Porter, featured guitar player and a regular member of Powers shows. All songs on this cd with the exception of one were written by Freddy, some with his new songwriting and business partner Bill McDavid and a couple of them with Merle. "My Great Escape" was written by close friends and new comers to the music business Big Kenny Alphin, John Rich and Rodney Clawson. Kenny and John or better known in the music business as "Big and Rich" who also sang harmonies while John played bass on this cut. Merle also joins Freddy on this album singing duets, "Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn" written by Freddy is to him the tale of Powers and Haggard''s boat life days known to them as the Spree of 83''. "Wild Party Blues" written by Freddy and Merle and "Ol Country Singer" which is also on Merle''s new "Live at Billy Bob''s cd featuring two cuts of this song one being live at Billy Bobs and the other being the same studio cut performed in this album.

Freddy was recently featured on a Muzik Mafia program on CMT with Big and Rich episode 2 with Willie Nelson, with talk of another show featuring on Freddy and Bill McDavid.
