Andy was born on the South Side of Chicago in Oak Lawn. He moved to Seattle as a pre-teen where his sixth grade teacher introduced him to writing/poetry at age 11. At 13, he was introduced to the guitar and started playing many long hours. During high school his personal likeness for music was steared towards hard rock and metal. Becoming emmersed in the sounds of some recent past greats like Led Zeppelin, along with contemporary metal music of Ozzy Osbourne. This is where he was introduced to Randy Rhoads, who was to become his single most influential artist, as time would tell. As it prompted him to get a classical guitar and started taking classical guitar lessons.

After graduating high school, and taking a year off of school, he studied classical music under Dr. Gloria Swisher and obtained a degree in music at age 21 from Shoreline College in North Seattle. In college, he and his friends were fiends at exploring all types of music. Coming across early 20th Century blues artists like Son House & Robert Johnson, and jazz artists like Django Reinhardt & Kenny Burrell. Along with, of course, contemporary artists of the time such as Metallica, Pantera, Ozzy Osbourne, and Megadeth. The majority of his classical training in college was 4 part choral studies of J.S. Bach compositions. He enjoyed playing classical guitar pieces written by Fernando Sor, Andre Segovia, and learning note for note pieces by Randy Rhoads.

During college he also began taking writing more seriously and was introduced to philosophy. With favorite writers like Jack Kerouac, William Shakespeare, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Ernst Hemingway. Stoic philosophy became a strong interest after being introduced to the handed down writings of Zeno of Citium.

At this time were the initial stages into the idea of a new kind of acoustic. And it is then that he bought his Guild D-52 acoustic, which is still his main guitar for recording and performing. He started thinking about the specific history of acoustic. He felt somehow it had been left behind long ago since the advent of the electric guitar in the mid-20th Century. And felt there was a lack of serious work persuing new defined directions for acoustic.

After obtaining his initial degree in music, he subsequently transferred to the University of Washington, where he dropped out of school to follow his passion of music. At that time, thrash metal was the passion he pursued and played in several garage bands. After a couple years of not being able to get anything substantially grounded with other musicians, he travelled throughout Europe several times. During his travels in Europe is where he was introduced to folk artists like Cat Stevens & Bob Dylan. It was after returning home from his last travels in Europe that he started actual work on the idea of his new kind of acoustic sound. As it was clear to him that even contemporary artists did not evolve much from 30 years earlier. It was at this time he started singing and began to voice out patterns to his style of guitar playing while writing songs. All the while with hopes that he would soon find a singer for collaboration.

He started thinking more about the history of acoustic, and he felt it was somehow left in limbo since some of the folk insurgence of the late 60''s and some artists in the 70''s. He felt not much had changed since then, as it was the 90''s, and mostly only those same defined, sterotype genre''s were the only one''s outputting acoustic music. There was the occassional rock ballad, or intro acoustic into songs, where maybe only a couple bars of acoustic guitar would be played.

He started working on his new acoustic idea. He focused on the use of his J.S. Bach 4-part choral studies to gain the fullest sound possible from the acoustic, his admiration for the tonal quality and immense heavy sublte control of power of Randy Rhoads (and general love of metal), and the historical context of where the acoustic had already been to develop his 1/2 step, minor progession love he then called a dissonant sound.

He wrote three songs and made his first demo in 1994 called "Acoustic Spanking." Innocence of a Death, JACK, and Touch Life were the songs. JACK was a piece of poetry written by one of his favorite writers at the time, Jack Kerouac. About a year later, in late summer 1995, he recorded another three song demo called "Exception: Lull." This was recorded with a bassist. The three songs were Lull, Secrets, and Beginningless perpetual.

Andy moved to L.A. in 1996. Two years later after settling into the whirlwind that is Los Angeles, he recorded a two song demo called "Temujin" in 1998. The songs were: there they sit..., and PUSH.

It was after this two song demo and the move to L.A. that he started calling his music "dissonant acoustic" to those that asked what kind of music it was he was playing, as it certainly was different for acoustic than others had heard. It had evolved to a particular sound and started to be fully realized as it''s own sound. He fully explored the dissonant side of the acoustic and his esoteric writing style with the subsequent release of his 2001 three song demo called "01." This included the songs: dau, Sun Skin, and Burn My World.

The "01" demo was quickly followed by a five song e.p. called "Definition." Recorded in L.A. during the summer of 2002. This included the songs: Habitually, Inc., Try To Change Me, She Blows Like The Wind, When Violence Has No Definition, and Touch Life. This recording helped further define the strong dissonant side of the acoustic tone he called dissonant acoustic, and helped further realize the passionate side of his vocal stylings. He supported this release performing at various clubs throughout the Los Angeles area for about two years.

This is when he moved to the desert in the Palm Springs area with his girlfriend and took a hiatus from music altogether. He spent some time evolving his writing, and during this time wrote the 20:min short movie script "Desert Nightmare." In the Fall of 2006 he started writing music again. During a two month period he wrote 15 songs, 10 of which made it to the recording a year later in an eight session studio recording at Vivid Tone studios in Beaumont CA. Working with studio engineer Rich Bruce. The new cd called Tabula Rasa is the most complete defining sound of Andy Ks dissonant acoustic. The songwriting has matured to competent accessible style, moving away from the earlier, strong progressions and esoteric feeling. Focusing on strong beats, and radio presentable material, while maintaing the unique dissonant sound that has become ubiquitous with the name Andy Ks.
