Composed of guitarist and songwriter Charif-Pierre Megarbane, bassman Jeremy Proville and percussionist Dominique Salameh, the Montreal-based trio of Heroes & Villains have been stirring eardrums for four years, and now with as many releases.

After a self-titled 5-song EP released for friends in 2004, the 7-song EP, All the Giants are Buried at Sea in 2005 introduced us to the melodic delights of C-P Megarbane’s songwriting, exposing ESA-2000, the majestic tribute Ruby Keeler, and the single First Night. Recorded at the landmark Hotel2Tango in Montreal’s Mile-End district, site of the recording of the first Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade albums, the EP’s construction with Howard Bilerman, of Arcade Fire/The Dears/Godspeed! fame, was an epic experience for the good natured boys.

Following numerous winter shows spanning from clubs to festivals, songs from the EP began to shape a path of their own. A handful ventured into the Top 50 Canada College Radio Charts from August to November in 2005. The catchy https://www.tradebit.comtname found its way down under to New Zealand radio. Meanwhile, the Heroes would be invited to record two live radio sessions at Concordia University’s CJLO, ranked best college radio in Canada that year. BBC’s Steve Lamacq show would mention H&V as yet another funky thing coming out of Montreal while the late-afternoon TV feature Baromètre on the Vox Channel featured the band’s work. Local newspapers and university publications covered the group numerous times, while the blogs weren''t shy of praise. A tour of Ontario and Quebec during the summer of 2006 brought this new batch of Heroes & Villains songs to unsuspecting ears.

In September, the band began recording Air Sea Rescue, like the EP, at the Hotel2Tango again with recordist Howard Bilerman. In November 2006, Heroes & Villains were asked to open for well-established UK outfit British Sea Power in Montreal. The same month saw a sold-out launch for Air Sea Rescue at the Divan Orange. The song Stella Maris would later be included in Nightlife Magazine’s anniversary compilation. The band would promote the album with a series of concerts, including a third appearance at the Pop! Montreal Festival; Victory Line would also be featured on Sook-Yin Lee’s “Definitely Not The Opera” on CBC Radio One.

Entirely self-recorded and self-produced by the band, the LP What Keeps Us from Sleeping at Night was launched in Montreal on 03/21/08 at Club Lambi to a packed room. Including songs such as Stranger On A Plane, Pedestrian Ping-Pong and The Last of the Useful Inventions, the album is inspired by the trials and tribulations of two friends.
