Fuzz-pop four piece, Ultrabreakfast, hails from Boston, combining odd vocal melodies with layered guitars and solid beats to concoct a truly unique sonic experience.
Ultrabreakfast “blends 80’s power-pop, late-night K-Tel classics, Heartland road epics and lo-fi 4-track daydreams,” paying tacit homage to their influences through sound cultivation, and in some cases expressing their affinity outright. “I want to meet all the guys in Superchunk,” a resounding line from the song Wishlist off their debut album ‘Ice Cream Tricycle, makes obvious reference to an influential predecessor.
The lyrics are goofy yet prolific, and often sang in dual guy-girl harmony. Scratchy and melodic, they make an unusual counterpart to the fuzz-laden guitar work of Paul Wisner and Tim Farrell. The Noise likened them to “A cross between Bettie Serveert, Pavement and early Blake Babies.”
Any fans of Yo La Tango, Pavement, or the Breeder’s, should check out Ultrabreakfast. They won’t be left unmoved.
People who are interested in Pavement Yo La Tengo The Breeders should consider this download.
