FOLK: Celtic Folk, WORLD: Celtic
About the CD: Furious Fancies is Wild Mercy''s second CD, and it shows a strong Celtic rock influence while also mixing in things like Leonard Cohen''s "Hallelujah" and the Beatles'' "Norwegian Wood." The bluesy "Their Music" and the cutting humor of the re-mixed fairy tales in "Po'' Boys" showcase the songwriting breadth of Chicago singer-songwriter Martha Coady Fabish, while "Gravity Exiles" brings updated lyrics to the "Nottamun Town" tune, offering travel advice to aliens passing near our planet.
About the band: Wild Mercy is an Indianapolis-based eclectic Celtic band consisting of Jen Midkiff, Debbie Gates, Sally Childs-Helton and Barry Childs-Helton. "But what do you play?" the discerning listener asks. We could tell you it''s "neo-Celtic-powered post-industrial electro-acoustic folk-rock with jazz blues, and world influences." We could tell you we are influenced by Hildegard of Bingen, Frank Zappa, Bruce Cockburn and Loreena McKennitt -- all at the same time. But mostly we''re four friends on a journey of musical, spiritual, and creative exploration. We play the stuff that makes us all grin maniacally or sigh together in contentment. Come join the journey!
