Sydney Tucker, the writer and producer of this song and CD, was born in Birmingham, England but grew up in London.
I moved to Jamaica from the UK two years ago (because I needed more sunshine!), and I think the beautiful surroundings and the scorching sun (not the Jamaican Rum!) has caused me to re-produce this song (which I wrote over 10 years ago and have recorded many times), in itâs best form yet. The song is called "Now''s The Time", and I''ve produced it in R&B with a Rub-a-Dub remix.
I wrote the song while thinking about how difficult it can be (especially for girls) to tell someone you really fancy them...I know a few people in this situation! (I wonder if this song will motivate anyone to ''make that move'', but please don''t blame me if it doesn''t go as planned!).
The artist on the CD is my good friend Chetengé (pronounced Cheh-ten-gae), which means Mother of the Village.
Cheryle Clarke, a.k.a. Chetengé, was born in Mount Salem Montego Bay Jamaica, and attended Anchovy Secondary School in her native parish St James.
Chetengé is no stranger to the performance arena in Jamaica, she worked the Cabaret Circuit on the North Coast and Negril and has graced the stage at Sum-Fest and performed the opening act for the likes of Tony Rebel, Marcia Griffiths and Gregory Isaacs.
Chetengé is a versatile singer and performs not only the music of her homeland (REGGAE), but during her cabaret shows at places like Sandals, Beaches Negril, Montego Beach Resorts, Bascobel and Point Village Hotel, she regularly performs Ballads, Jazz, Country & Western and Pop songs to complete her repertoire. Chetengé has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (J.C.D.C.) performing arts competition and one year was the parish champion in the Pop and Variety Contest. In 1998, she won the Montego Bay Song Competition.
In 1999 ChetengĂ© decided to spread her wings far above the confines of Cabaret singing and participated in the National Festival Song Contest with her entry song âBorn Inna J.A.â. She emerged the winner for best song and writer. She is the second female singer and composer to have won this competition since its inception in 1966.
ChetengĂ© âŠSinger, Song Writer and Arranger has also co-produced her own debut âRoots & Cultureâ album entitled âBordersâ, a fusion of Afro Caribbean and Reggae music transcending barriers among people of all nations. "Borders" includes the track "Over Fifty" which has taken the Caribbean, New York and Florida by storm. ChetengĂ© is ready for the International marketplace...She is strong, courageous and focused, and puts no boundaries on her hopes for tomorrow.
Check out her latest CD now! You won''t be disappointed.
