Ed Robinson is a music genius from Detroit, often referred to as “a musician’s musician.”
A Pianist, arranger, composer, singer & producer, he played his first piano notes at the age of 3 ½ years. After a year of private music lessons, he advanced to the Conservatory of Music for Classical Music studies under the tutelage of a renown European Professors, conductors & pianists. Additional training included private studies with prominent professionals i.e. orchestra conductors, symphony pianists and great Jazz, Blues & Gospel musicians. In Detroit, he formed his own band which was respected and known for their skillful & versatile musicianship.
Ed composed for a number of recording artists. The list includes theme music for motion pictures and television shows, such as MTV’s “Real People,” “Road show” and the ever popular, “Bonanza,” to name a few.
Before his long stint overseas, Ed was contacted by Ray Charles to write for his upcoming album.
At a popular international Jazz Festival, in Scandinavia, Ed dhared the bill with Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, James Brown, George Benson & Carlos Santana. Another memorable performance was a duet live duet with multitalented friend and singer and musician Jose Feliciano.
While recording in New York’s legendary Altantic Studio, the late singer, Luther Vandross walked in looking for Ed. “Is the session over?” he asked. "Yes," replied Ed , the session just ended. A Disappointed Luther replied, “I was recording in the studio around the corner when I heard great things about you. I came by to hear you. Personal complements from other reknown celebrities include, Jazz guitarist,George Benson,Actor, Samuel L. Jackson, Kate Winslet, Isaac Hayes, Paul Young, Donald Byrd, Toots Tillman, Freddie Hubbard, Donald O’Connor (“Singin’ In The Rain”), Isabella Rosollini, Michele LeGrand,etc. During a performance in Marakech, at the palace of the King, composer, producer, Quincy Jones dropped in and caught Ed''s performance of song, "I Forget Everything" (cut #8 on this CD.)
At the end of the show, a note was left that read, “Please tell Mr. Robinson how much I enjoyed his performance and ‘thanks’ for a wonderful evening!” signed, Quincy Jones.
“Business Life,” a leading magazine in England, published a review of Mr. Robinson’s performance that was also featured in British Airways International Flight Magazine, distributed world-wide. The article declared,“Mr. Robinson is one of the best single jazz performers anywhere. He is certainly a performer to remember.”
