Eisenhower Field Day is an innovative and energetic power-pop trio. They produce an unprocessed hybrid of organic melodies and bright boy/girl harmonies reminiscent of 80s and 90s underground rock. Contemplative, snapshot lyrics ride on waves of blazing guitars, fuzz-dirt bass, and thundering drums. Their sound is much bigger than the sum of its parts.
Eisenhower Field Day came on the music scene late in 2006 with the release of âLetâs not tell liesâ, their first full-length release. As a bonus on the CD, the band included their 2003 EP: âOur Time in the Coloniesâ. EFDâs album and live shows garnered raves and attention throughout 2007. After playing and touring for a year, they solidified their vision for their sophomore release: âTyrants and Spiesâ. This new 12-song album was released on May 2, 2008 and is already garnering praise...
âTheyâre just everyday people who may not realize how great a rock album theyâre about to unleash...â
-Josh Flynn, NUVO
âTheir new record âTyrants and Spiesâ is fantastic. The trio sounds bigger than three people. Beautiful harmonies, melodies, smart songwriting and enough rock to be truly called power-pop.â
- Nora Spitznogle, Broad Ripple Gazette
âSo what is the Eisenhower Field Day sound? If anything, it can be more easily compared to a whole era than to any particular band, something you might have heard on the radio or MTVâs Alternative Nation in the early to mid â90s. And thatâs part of the joy of Tyrants and Spies. Eisenhower Field Day manages to capture the rock energy of that era, beginning with the blazing guitars of âWilliams Dam,â a story about a female looking for reclamation in the decay of the damâs remains.
Thereâs a dichotomy between exuberant rock and angsty, introspective lyrics throughout the album, as well as a bit of politically-minded content. The aggressive âSunshine Patriotâ features a miasma of fear-mongering and social malaise.
On âBrave Daughters,â Holly Butler takes center stage with powerful lead vocals on a song about anti-intellectualism, singing, âWe are sage and wise beyond our fathers. We are not liked.â She is a force throughout the album. Her backing harmonies and dueling vocals with her husband lift Tyrants and Spies from being merely good to great.
Despite the personal and political pessimism that pervades many songs, Eisenhower Field Day has indeed made an upbeat album. In every guitar chord, every drumbeat, every vocal there is hope. Itâs a record of three friends doing what they love...and thatâs something to swagger about.â
â Josh Flynn, NUVO
â...a series of blistering indie-rock songs. Their music has been compared to â90s college rock bands, and they evoke the artistic and laid-back vibe of that time period. John Harmon of Red Light Driver said they sound like Superchunk and Husker Du running through a field of flowers.â
- Jessica Adams, NUVO
âThis trio has been making waves and turning heads all year. Don't be fooled by the fact that they're a three piece. Eisenhower Field day gets as much sound out of 3 instruments as most bands get out of a half dozen. Their music is full of rich, urgent riffs and catchy harmonies that will have you wondering how they get so much sound out of such a sparse line up.â
- Wayne Brestch, NUVO
âIndianapolisâ shapeshifting trio puts the blaze and swing back into indie rock.â
âExcellent indie, punk pop, geekcore with boi / grrl vocals, driving drum beats and melodic bass lines along with interesting guitar rhythms. Easily one of the best releases of the year with many songs getting put into my MP3's standard rotation. Eisenhower Field Day is one of those bands that make me smile while I listen to them and give me hope for the future of music. â¨

âIndie-rock trio Eisenhower Field Day dish up textbook-perfect indie rock...â
âIndianapolisâ Eisenhower Field Day swerves and sweats and voraciously emits pure indie rock carnage...â

âEFD has a Replacements attitude that informs their music.... the songs sound like they came off of a Westerberg demo tape you never heard, or, better still, a WOXY soundcheck...â
âMan, this Indianapolis three piece is one hot little group. They sound like they came right out of a time warp, beaming back from the days of late 80s underground college rock. The thing is, they make it sound like it's never been done before, and that makes it even better.â
-Mish Mash Music
âEffortless melodic rock with bright harmonies and stern pop choruses...â
