POP: Britpop, POP: New Wave
The Tweeks is the band''s sophomore (self-titled) album. Recorded entirely by the band themselves over a period of 9 days in November 2007, the band chose to return to Dunedin''s Albany Street Studios – the location of recording sessions for both their previous releases. In all, 11 tracks were recorded with the mixing being handled by drummer Stu Harwood and mastering by Dale Cotton.
The Tweeks captures the bands live feel with most instruments being recorded at the same time in the same room with vocals added afterwards. The bands signature harmonies have been taken a step further since the release of You Can Listen Too and a their tendency to experiment with sounds and song structures within a pop context has become more pronounced. Think of a mixture of The Pixies, late Beatles, Dunedin Jangle, and a little bit of Buddy Holly on whatever Johnny Cash was taking. It''s pop music but probably shouldn''t be.
The trump card was the mid evening appearance on stage of Dunedin''s bright new hope – The Tweeks. This four piece band was stunning...their four part harmonies and instrumental arrangements were outstanding: great dynamics, tempos shifting, quirky melodies; time signatures changing on a dime." - Liam Ryan, Bay of Plenty Times.
"The foursome have seemingly taken the classic sound of 60s guitar bands like The Byrds, mixed it with Britpop, to create something refreshingly Kiwi. The Tweeks create musical surprises by changing the atmosphere of songs at the drop of a semi-quaver..." 4 stars - The Dominion Post
