Details:
The Disc: Party with the Rich is the Grandsons 5th full length album since they first exploded on the Washington-DC area roots rock scene in 1987. This brand new studio recording contains 13 songs that showcase the Grandsons enthusiasm for 60''s soul, rockabilly, New Orleans R&B, country, latin, rock and roll, and swing.
The Songs: Originals like "Hip Replacement", "Weekly World Blues", "Baby''s First Cadillac", and the title track have already become crowd favorites at live shows. Instrumentals like "Anatomy of a Riff"--a latin-tinged homage to 1950''s film noir, "Theme from Saguaro"--a western TV show theme song just waiting for a TV show to go with it, and the hilarious album closer "Grandsons All-Night Jazz Party" showcase the groups musical chops. Add in some choice covers by should-be soul legend Howard Tate, the Grandsons favorite Crescent city songwriter Allen Toussaint, Motowner Smokey Robinson, and country nut Roger Miller, as well as a couple songs written for the group by DC-area songwriter Scott McKnight, and New Yorker Jonathan Spottiswoode, and the disc practically jumps out of the Hi-Fi.
The Band: Alan MacEwen (lead vocals, guitar, trumpet), Chris Watling (tenor and baritone saxes, accordion), and Matt Sedgley (percussion), are the core of the Grandsons. Not content to have just one bass player to complete the quartet, the Grandsons have employed long time associates Steve Sachse (Lloyd Price, Jerry Butler, Ben E. King), Eric Bowers (Bombpop), John Young (Spottiswoode & his Enemies, Danielle Howle), and Moe Nelson (Hula Monsters), to hold down the low end. Some energetic cameos on the disc include performances by organist/vocalist Jon Carroll (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Starland Vocal Band), guitarist/vocalist Bill Williams (Last Train Home, Kevin Johnson & the Linemen), dobro player Dave Giegerich (Hula Monsters), and vocal group Davinci''s Notebook. The Grandsons are also excited about the work of the young producer/guitarist phenom Jared Bartlett (Last Train Home, Brindley Brothers).
CD Release Shows: The Grandsons will be promoting Party with the Rich during the months of March and April with shows in Arlington VA, Charlottesville VA, Richmond VA, Baltimore MD, and New York city.
