In his early twenties, John began playing bars in and around Manhattan: now defunct spots such as McGovern’s and Sinead, as well as The Bitter End, Mercury Lounge and countless coffee houses and subway stations. Exclusively an acoustic player, John’s music has been described as “Blue folk.” His melodies, metaphors and images of hard-edged city life are interwoven with soulful testimonials of hope and redemption. John feels honored by comparisons to singers such as Van Morrison and Ritchie Havens, but adds, “I read somewhere that when you grow up in a city of five million, you realize there are five people just like you. It is not what separates us as artists that is important, but what connects us." John’s live performances take audiences on a journey through blue-black city streets and bar rooms of New York City to autumn brown country roads paved with gratitude.
Jazz bassist Joe Fonda refers to John''s lyrics as "true poetry. His guitar playing is rooted in the blues and has a deep groove. Lstening to john is an experience you won''t forget for a long time. I am living proof of that."
