LeeAnn Anderson brings you into a vivid imaginary world populated by pirates, fairies and kites that come to life. A place where love is the hero and everyone is a shooting star. And on Light As Air, Anderson allows her listener inside an often fantastical world, revealing her inner thoughts about life and the beauty of childhood.
Light As Air is the nine – song (no filler, all gems) debut from LeeAnn Anderson. While Light As Air songs are ethereal, the musical and lyrical vision is as thoughtful, brainy and delightful as Anderson herself. Born in Buffalo NY, LeeAnn began writing poetry at a very young age. In the eighth grade a friend of LeeAnn came to visit with a guitar and LeeAnn put her poetry to work writing songs. The next thing she knew she was the lead singer for his band! Anderson was hooked and soon had saved enough to buy her first guitar and a few easy to read guitar books and began to teach herself how to play. LeeAnn has always found solace in music that ranged from Barbara Streisand to Johnny Cash, from Motown to the melodic melancholia of British artists like Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. The transportive allure of music thrilled and informed her sensibilities. LeeAnn’s literary tastes are equally eclectic, including the graceful prose of Jane Austen and the quirky, surreal tales of Lewis Carrol and C.S. Lewis. Her songs embody the qualities of her influences.
The story of Light As Air all started with the title track “Light As Air” which LeeAnn penned in her twenties on piano and had always intended to write a children’s opera around. “In my late thirties, with young children, I became increasingly disappointed with the quality of children’s music. By the time I turned forty I had made up my mind to do something about it!” Anderson through a personal acquaintance met producer/musician David McConnell (Folk Implosion, Elliott Smith). Two years and nine songs later, Light As Air is complete! A creative consequence of an inquiring imagination, and the intense desire to teach the younger generations about love, peace and acceptance. Anderson and McConnell recorded Light As Air in Asheville NC at Altamont Recording Studio. The album features many talented musicians from Asheville, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Nashville. Contributing to the CD was David McConnell, Tyler Ramsey on guitar currently touring with Band of Horses and recently showcased on World Café NPR Music, Daniel Hart on violin (St. Vincent, John Vanderslice, The Polyphonic Spree, Annuals) The Apple Juice Kid on drums (Industry Standard Showcase 1sst place winner NYC 2006) Tyson Rodgers on piano who recently recorded with Chris Stamey and the Yo La Tengo, Matthew Bandau on bass, and Josh Starmer on cello both touring with The Old Ceremony.
