Thed Weller is an award-winning rapper, sixth grade teacher and humanitarian. The Bessemer native began rapping when he was in the sixth grade to overcome a stuttering problem, and hasn’t stopped since. In 2007, he contributed music to the Emmy Award winning documentary Mr. Dial Has Something to Say. The music from this documentary marks the the first time in Alabama Public Television history in which an original music soundtrack was created for one of their documentaries. This music has also been nominated for a 2008 Emmy Award. Thed was also nominated for a BAMA (Birmingham Area Music Award) as one of Birmingham’s “Best Rappers” in 2008. Thed’s sophomore album entitled Better Than I Can Tell You “thankfully returns southern hip hop to its rightful place, one of intelligence and musical acumen, without losing an ounce of soul in the process” - (https://www.tradebit.com.) His debut album, Ain’t No Pillows On the Road, won a Dirty 30 Award in 2005 as “Favorite Album”. He has founded the HHIM (Hip Hop Is Music) Foundation which is a non-profit organization that aides young hip-hop musicians realize their musical dreams and attend college.
