Chris Wuehrmann’s first cd offering, Headwaters Dawning, can be described as “joy-full music”; it does, indeed, convey his heart’s joy when playing the piano. The songs on this album are Chris’ own arrangements, and performed on keyboard with various instrumental sounds accompanying his primary instrument, the piano.
The album is dedicated to Ruth Van Buren Nelson, Chris’ maternal grandmother, a concert pianist and organist.
Headwaters Dawning appeals to the heart, as evidenced by these comments:
"I listen to it over and over, and never tire of it."
"I had to pull the car off the road; I was so touched it brought tears to my eyes."
"After hearing it, I will buy any music Chris produces."
"Every time I listen to it, I hear something different."
Chris Wuehrmann''s music is inspired by his love of the outdoors; he''s at peace when enjoying nature. Whether it''s back country solo backpacking in the Grand Canyon, exploring Arizona''s untrammeled deserts, canyons and forests, trekking in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with friends, kayaking and fishing at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee, hiking in the enchanted countryside of New Mexico, or relaxing in his own back yard in Chino Valley, Arizona, music is being created.
A native of Chicago, Chris came west in 1967 to attend Prescott College in Arizona, and became an instant devoteé of the Southwest. His eclectic employments and pastimes have included organic truck farming, field archaeology, logging, raising Nubian dairy goats, English country dance, backpacking, canoeing and kayaking, and fishing.
Retired from his position as manager of the largest Elderhostel program in the world at Yavapai College, Chris and his wife, Rita, are doing lots more trailer traveling (or is it travel trailering?), genealogy research, fishing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching, music, and visiting, especially in Texas and the American South, places that call to them. Another love is teaching: anthropology, archaeology, geology, and Southwest Indian culture, which he intends to continue.
Expect the unexpected in Chris'' coming albums. He is planning everything from patriotic, gospel, and British Isles themes to meditative, folk, English country dance, and all original compositions.
