About Our Band:
What if The Posies and Kings X got into a fight, Steely Dan broke it up, and they all got drunk and watched Schoolhouse Rock for eleven hours or so? You might end up with Heavyhead. All jokes aside, it's about as good as any other description. There are four guys in this band with musical tastes and influences that run the gamut. I'm probably the most eclectic (I'm Jerry, the bass player, by the way; referring to myself in the third person is too pretentious, even for me). I go from The Beatles to Tool and points beyond. Davey's a close second, and we're pretty similar; his roots are on the heavier side (he played for Trouble a few years ago) but he's open to just about anything. Tom was raised on 70s rock and New Wave, and he's big on the Brits (Bowie, Floyd, Stones, etc...). Eric's easily the biggest Beatles fan, and he's also really into the Dead, CSNY, stuff like that. We have lots of things in common, but we each have bands we like that the other three wouldn't have anything to do with.
Surprisingly enough, though, bringing it all together hasn't been a problem, which has more to do with personal, rather than musical, roots. The four of us had been friends long before Heavyhead was even imagined. I was in my first working band with Tom, too many years ago to mention! I played with Dave in another group for a long time, and Tom and Eric worked together, both as an acoustic duo and in bands, for longer. As a result, the friendship that would take another band years to develop was already in place for ours before it began, and we were all aware of our individual styles and strengths.
As a unit, our greatest strength is our vocal ability. Eric, Tom and I are all lead singers with very unique voices, which also creates a distinctive blend when we sing together. Moreover, we like singing together, and harmonies are an integral part of our sound. Musically, there's a chemistry between the four of us that's undeniable. We complement each other on an almost instinctual level, and the energy we create is really indescribable.
Most importantly, we're all interested in the same thing: writing good songs . Musicianship is all well and good, but it's a means to an end, rather than an end unto itself. Our whole reason for being is to create music with a heart and soul of it's own, to be appreciated by anyone and everyone, and that includes YOU !
So there you have it. Granted, we're a little hard to describe, but comparisons are just that. Take a listen for yourself; and be prepared to dig it, baby!
