Details:
Kim Wallach is a singer and songwriter now living in southwest New Hampshire. In college, Kim studied poetry with Robert Pinsky and Richard Wilbur, and Scottish songs and ballads with Jean Redpath. She learned the craft of writing, and developed an enduring love and respect for traditional song. After college, and a year in Europe playing the streets and doing floor spots in English clubs, Kim returned to Boston where she worked her way up through the Nameless, the Back Room at the Idler, Passim and the multitudes of suburban clubs. Then in 1985, when she was a Newfolk semifinalist at Kerrville, Kim began touring extensively to California, the mid-west, and up and down the east coast, as well as returning to Kerrville to become a regular on the children’s stage.
In 1990, Kim moved to New Hampshire where in 1991 she got married and became a public school music teacher, and in 1992 gave birth to a daughter, Ariel. Since then Kim has performed on a limited basis (New Hampshire Women’s Music Festival, for example) and with the Short Sisters, but she continues to sing and write about the lives and times of those around her. Now the divorced mother of a teenager, Kim is performing more frequently.
Kim’s recordings include three tapes of children’s music,four Short Sister’s albums, an early self-named EP, and four collections of mostly original songs, The Coldest Winter in Living Memory, Paddle on the Rahway, I’m Keeping a Secret from You, The House Between the Tracks, a new collection of originals, traditional songs and favorite songs from other writers titled Where Does Love Come From ?and a new children’s recording for older children called Gathering the Tools Together.
