. Ivery, Young Man With Old Soul
Hailing from the bottom of the map, Miami, Florida, J. Ivery comes with a soulful sound found in singers far beyond his 20 years.
J. Ivery, born Johnathan Rashad Ivery, the first artist signed to KAB76 Music Group, takes old school soul and mixes it with new school hip-hop to develop a flavor all his own.
After joining his church choir at the tender age of 8, he developed a singing bug he just could not shake. Eversince that monumental moment in church as a young boy, many have praised him on his vocal gift. Being that J. Ivery is a very spiritual person, his church upbringing definitely comes out in his voice. He is often compared to greats such as, Al Green and Anthony Hamilton. He credits the incomparable Luther Vandross and the electrifying Fred Hammond as a few of his musical inspirations. It wasn’t until J. Ivery performed in a high school play that he knew he wanted to make performing a way of life.
“When I sing it is a feeling unexplainable,” said Ivery. “It is something I can run to when I’m stressed or having a bad day. It is a great escape for me.”
J. Ivery has a positive approach to his music, and most of the messages in his songs are about living life to the fullest and enjoying everything that life brings. He is a hopeless romantic and shows great appreciation for the ladies with hits like “Sunflower Girl” and “Sexy Girl,” which is a song dedicated to the sophisticated divas inspired by supermodel and TV personality Tyra Banks. He also has club hits like “Having Fun Tonight,” and a personal testimony to himself and hopefully an inspiration to other young men in a song called “Better Man.”
With his smooth chocolate skin and sultry voice, J. Ivery is definitely the new kid on the block to watch out for
