Details:
JEAN SHY is an internationally acclaimed Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz & Gospel Singer, Songwriter and Producer as well as an Actress. She is definitely a multi-talented and truly unique Artist and audiences are overwhelmed by her powerful vocal delivery.

Born in Chicago, Jean''s vocal background had it''s beginning in Gospel Music. MAHALIA JACKSON was her first musical Idol. ELVIS PRESLEY inspired her to become a professional Entertainer in commercial Music. Later she was also greatly influenced by DINAH WASHINGTON, ELLA FITZGERALD, SAMMY DAVIS JR., HARRY BELAFONTE and many other great Singers such as GLADYS KNIGHT, DIONNE WARWICK, ARETHA FRANKLIN, CARMEN McRAE and others.

Jean was already receiving awards for her musical talents by the time she reached High School.

At the age of twelve Jean was signed by Leonard and Phil Chess to the legendary CHESS LABEL in Chicago. The release of "Spring Fever" by Tim & Jean became a Regional Hit.

Just before leaving High School Jean was signed by Carl Davis for Brunswick Records. With various regional Record successes she toured as an Opening-Act with THE CHI-LITES, THE O''JAYS, AL GREEN, STYLISTICS, JACKIE WILSON, TYRONE DAVIS and others, gathering a tremendous amount of Stage-Experience. Jean later also recorded for Honey Records and Fantasy Records.

Jean''s first Album produced by Hense Powell; Executive Producer - Emerson Featherstone followed. One Single from that production was signed by Jay Butler to Playboy Records. The potential success of this very promising release crumbled quickly when the Company folded.

During that time period Jean met her later to be Business Manager Nick Sevano, who managed Artist such as Glen Campbell, Julia McGuinnes and others. A while after the Playboy Records Deal Nick set up an Audition for Jean with Al Coury the President of R.S.O. Records who was highly impressed with Jean''s performance.

It was the beginning of the Dance Music Phase in the USA when Jean decided to branch out and go to Europe. Soon after she arrived in Germany she met the Producer Bernt Moehrle who produced two Singles on her which were released on Polydor Records. Bernt offered Jean an Album Deal with CBS Records (now Sony Music) which was turned down because Nick was negotiating a Record Contract on her behalf with R.S.O. In the USA at that time.

1978 R.S.O. and Nick Sevano made a three Song Production deal with the Producer Bob Esty. Because Bob was very busy with the productions of Barbara Streisand''s "Main Event" and Cher''s new Album, the finishing of the production with Jean, which was put in between, took much longer than agreed. By then the Dance Music phase had already cooled way down. The release of this great 12" Single production of the Song "NIGHT DANCER" written by Bob Esty, still brought Jean her first national Record success, which was a number nine US Hit in the Billboard Top 100 Disco Charts, and also became one of the Soundtracks in the Movie "Roller Boogie" starring Linda Blair. The B-Side was the Classic "THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC" which made it up to #13 into many regional US Charts, however a potential crossover Hit which was sought after, therefore was not achieved. Soon after R.S.O. Records closed it''s doors.

After her success with R.S.O. Jean returned to Europe making Germany her second home. She met Dr. Carlo Bohlaender one of Europe''s acclaimed Jazz Critics who introduced her into the Frankfurt Jazz Scene as well as to one of Germany''s Top Jazz, Blues & Gospel Agents Dieter Nentwig.

Amongst performing various Jazz Concerts Jean was sent by the City FRANKFURT as a cultural Ambassador representing Frankfurt in the Partner City MILANO, Italy, with a performance at the world famous "Scala", with one of Frankfurt''s traditional Jazz Bands "Herbert Christ & The Jazz Babies".

Soon after, she signed an exclusive Booking Contract with the Dieter Nentwig International Musikagentur. Because a well known Colleague had to cancel a performance at the "Lahnstein Blues Festival" presented by SWF Radio, Jean was booked to perform with "The Frankfurt City Blues Band" and this concert, which was also recorded and broadcast by SWF exceeded all expectations. After that, countless performances at national and International Jazz & Blues Festivals with "The Frankfurt City Blues Band" and other known Bands such as "The Blues Company", "The Barrelhouse Jazz Band" and the Climax Band Cologne followed.

Since 1980 Jean has been working with KING EDWARD RECORDS. Her first Album entitled MAZE (I Just Wanna Escape) was released. Believing in JEAN SHY in every aspect of her musical Talent the Label has supported her diverse Music Styles, therefore releasing various Cd''s by her over the Years, which, just like her Concerts, range from Blues/ R&B to Jazz and Gospel.

1982 she formed her own Band "STREETBLUES" with Vladimir Rada (Bass) Gerd Freymann (Drums) Hannsjoerg Scheid (Guitar) and Mike Hoffmann (Piano). As a Group they toured Europe developing their own Style, Sound and a great following. With the finishing of their first Album together entitled "Tough Enough" the Band Name was changed to "Bordell". When King Edward Records made a contract with "Record Shack Records" in England and the Record Shack Label Boss refused to release the Album as Jean Shy & Bordell the Band Name was changed once again. JEAN SHY & THE SHY GUYS was born. Still in the beginning of the release of "Tough Enough" the Band split up and Jean was left putting new "Shy Guys" together going on Tour immediately. Even though during the Years there have been some member changes, two members of "The -new- Shy Guys" Klaus Zimmermann (Guitar) and Martin Hoette (Guitar) as well as long term members Bernhard Spiess (Drums), Sascha Kuehn (Keyboards) and Bernd Winterschladen (Sax) are still performing as a Team today. The newest addition to the Band is Georg Mahr on the B3 Hammond Organ, who had been a Guest Musician on many Jean Shy Shows during the last 15 Years.

In between Touring and Recording in Europe Jean has gone back and forth between Germany and Los Angeles. In 1988 she signed a five year contract with "Lever Brothers", to do a :15 and :30 Sec. Spot for Dove Soap. She became the National DOVE SOAP LADY OF THE YEAR and the Dove Soap Spot won the CEBA AWARD OF EXELLENCE. Shy was then represented by one of Americas biggest Commercial Agencies SUTTON, BARTH & VENNARI, through which she landed other big Commercial Deals for SILO ELECTRONICS, US WEST COMMUNICATIONS and AMES DEPARTMENT STORES.

Jean also played a Leading Role in the Soap-Opera "SECRET PASSIONS" as Council woman June Tshwaila. During that same time period Jean hosted her own TV Talk Show "THE JEAN SHY RHYTHM & NEWS SHOW" produced by WALKER ENTERTAINMENT which aired weekly on Cable TV.
After the release of her CD "READY FOR LOVE" produced by Michael McGregor, and besides performing with her own Band, Jean joined an interesting project in 1994. She was the featured Singer for the Dutch formation T-SPOON which prior had two Top 10 Hits. T-SPOON featuring JEAN SHY landed a No. 7 Hit promptly with "WHERE `R `U NOW" in the Benelux countries. Following that success they did a remake of the Janice Joplin Classic "MERCEDES BENZ" which became a No. 5 Benelux Hit and was the 65th most bought Single of the Year. The Songs made it into the Charts in a couple of other Countries as well.

With the following Project N678ALL featuring JEAN SHY she landed at No. 32 on the British Dance Charts with the Song "SUMMERNATION". Upon the request of many Fans over the Years, JEAN SHY & THE SHY GUYS finally recorded a Live-CD in 1998 entitled "UNCHAIN MY HEART" and a Year later she recorded her first Gospel CD " AMAZING GRACE" with a smaller "Shy Guys" formation. With AMAZING GRACE Jean has gone on various Gospel-Tours in Germany, going, back to her Roots in presenting her Special Gospel & Spiritual Program "A Tribute to MAHALIA JACKSON".

Her next CD "STILL SWINGIN'' (After All These Years)" was recorded Live in Cologne with "THE CLIMAX BAND". Performing with THE CLIMAX BAND has been a continuous Special Project for Jean over the Years keeping her Jazz Roots alive in Germany and The Netherlands.

In May 2002 Jean toured together for the first time with JBBO from Krakow, which is Poland''s oldest and Internationally known European Jazz Formation. During their Tour they performed at Jazz Festivals in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. In Hungary the Concert at the
SALGOTARIAN JAZZ FESTIVAL was recorded and broadcast by the Hungarian MAGYAR RADIO. Since the Tour was such an excellent and Positive experience they recorded a Jazz/R&B CD together at the Radio Krakow Studio entitled "The Other Side Of Blue". The CD Release and other Tours in 2003 within Poland along with national Live-TV Performances including a TV-Performance at the "Polish Oscars" at which the JBBO won an Award once again for being the best "Jazz Band of the Year" followed, receiving an excellent response from critiques and audiences alike.

In September 2004 Jean got a leading part in a National TV Spot as well as the Print Advertisement for TARGET in the USA. The TV and Ad Campaigns started in January 2005.

Jean Shy''s newest CD is her second Gospel Album entitled "ONE DAY" which is a joint Venture between King Edward Records and Featherstone Records. ONE DAY as well as the first Radio Single from the Album entitled "Precious Memories" which is a true classic, was released in the USA on the 14th of February 05.
