Eli Wilson, Jr., the son of a Baptist preacher and pastor, is an ordained minister of church music, with 25 years of full-time service. Currently, Minister Wilson is the founder of Eli Wilson Ministries, Inc.-- a Church Music Resource Ministry, designed to address church music leadership issues for musicians, pastors, and seminarians.
Minister Wilson is a composer and independent recording artist. He has released four solo recordings: “Introducing Eli Wilson, Jr.: God’s Word Shall Stand Forevermore”, “Pure and Simple”, “In My Quiet Time”, and his most recent, “For His Glory”.
Some of his compositions are published in the United Church of Christ’s New Century Hymnal, The African American Heritage Hymnal, the United Methodist Hymnal -- Zion Still Sings, and New Wine in Old Wine Skins Supplemental Hymnal.
Minister Wilson is also the author of “Equipping The Church Choir for Ministry” – a church music resource book for church music leaders and choir members.
Minister Wilson served as Children’s Choir Director during the filming of “The Apostle” starring academy award nominee Robert Duvall. The movie features a Bible Rap-Song on which he was co-writer.
Minister Wilson is also the Music Director for the Children’s Defense Fund’s annual Proctor Institute at Haley Farm in Clinton, Tennessee.
Eli has penned more then 100 compositions for solo voice, SATB choir, children’s and male voices.
He is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana where he did his undergraduate work at Dillard University in Vocal Music Education. He has done postgraduate study at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School and the Eastman School of Music in Christian Education and Sacred Music. In 1990 he received the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree from Virginia Seminary and College.
Eli is married to the former Brenda Marie Simmons and together they have two sons Eli III (Tre’) and LeVar Antoine (Tony).
Minister Wilson is God ordained, God inspired, and Holy Spirit lead. His mission is to do the work of Jesus Christ as he assist the church, and its musici leadership to strive toward its full potential.
