A zombie is defined as "an animated corpse that feeds on living human flesh." The Zombie is a dance move, best described as similar to Pigpen''s signature dance move. OK Zombie is a band whose music provides the opportunity to do The Zombie, while not actually having to be A zombie.
With the upcoming release of their debut album, “Do The Zombie,” brains have taken a backseat. The album features the singles “Like You” and “Departed.” And just because they sing “Zombie’s Don’t Dance,” doesn’t mean OK Zombie doesn’t perform. Their live performances combine the quirkiness of B horror films and the punch of a machete to an undead head.
The origins of OK Zombie are shrouded in myth. Though the band members themselves scarcely remember how it all started, two things keep coming back around: George A. Romero and Spam.
Late night zombie film fests seem to be a direct influence on the music of OK Zombie. True, the music sounds like it should be on the soundtrack for the next George Romero film, but there also seems to a playfulness to it, as if it were coming from a calliope on a carousel where the undead spin round, helpless, stumbling and falling, not aware enough to hold on.
The band''s almost animalistic consumption of Spam leaves room to question whether they themselves might be part zombie. However, OK Zombie insists that that''s simply not true, but rather only enjoy it because it comes with its own key.
One thing is for sure, the music of OK Zombie will leave you shuffling your feet and reaching for the nearest meat by-product. So, grab a copy of Max Brook''s The Zombie Survival Guide, turn out the lights, lock the doors and do The Zombie.
