Tom Chapin’s first solo recording is a beautiful collection of original songs. The long locks and denim duds shown on the cover place this album smack-dab in the mid 70’s; yet the album still sounds fresh, optimistic and relevant. Chapin’s smooth tenor vocals and precise guitar and banjo sing the early writings of a young heart.
Most of the songs examine relationships – from the all-encompassing infatuation of passion and desire to the pain of a break-up, searching for answers, and hoping for reconciliation.
The title, "Life Is Like That" comes from a line in the chorus of the final track, "Number One," a song Tom wrote for his brother Harry Chapin, who was riding the first blush of fame. A song about priorities and staying grounded in the midst of celebrity and great success.
