Details:
Stephen Simmons was raised in the small town of Woodbury, Tennessee. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father held a factory job. In his family, they were the first generation that didn’t work the farm. Now a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, Stephen’s vision entails more than just reflections of rural America.
His earlier records ("Last Call", "Drink Ring Jesus") tackled themes of Redemption and Salvation. They were told through characters who struggled between the barrooms and church pews, like the ones he grew up with in rural Cannon County, Tennessee. 2007''s "Something In Between" finally revealed a more personal side to his story songs as it dealt primarily with the wreckage of failed human relationships. However, "The Blame''s On U.S." finds Simmons'' taking on an unpopular war in Iraq and the Administration that launched it. It features songs written in the run-up to the recent U.S. elections of 2006, yet remain relevant in 2008.
Like Simmons’ previous records, "The Superstore", "Last Call", "Drink Ring Jesus", and "Something In Between" (which were compared to everyone from Johnny Cash to Ryan Adams), "The Blame’s On U.S." combines virtuosic songcraft and musicianship with unparalleled artistic honesty. It was recorded, engineered and mixed by Joe McMahan at ‘Wow and Flutter’ Studios in East Nashville, TN.
