Details:
In the late summer of 2000, Karaugh met Grammy-nominated folksinger, Bill Morrissey at Club Passim (Cambridge, MA). At the prompting of the sound engineer, she passed her EP to Morrissey, who called her shortly thereafter and offered her a support slot on his upcoming shows. In January 2001, Morrissey then made a second offer: to produce Karaugh''s first full-length album. Billy Conway (Morphine, Twinemen) signed on as engineer/drummer, and the three went into the studio in the spring of 2002. In the midst of this recording she was nominated for a Boston Music Award and invited to showcase on the main stage at the 14th Annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. One Round Orange was released in her hometown at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA in October 2002. Just before the release of the album, Karaugh was invited to contribute one of her songs to the Respond II (Signature Sounds) compilation CD, which includes such female luminaries as Suzanne Vega, Joan Baez, Ani Difranco and the Indigo Girls. Respond II was released in January 2003.
Karaugh writes with a painter''s hand in mind, creating palpable images and scenes. With phrasing beyond her years, she has emerged in the Boston folk scene as one of the finest writers among her colleagues.
Karaugh first began recording in an early and warm January, 2000, when she traveled by train to Philadelphia to record her first EP. She released Dresses and Dirt that spring on her own label, One Room Records. The EP earned her support slots with Melissa Ferrick and Dan Bern and brought her to the attention of the Boston folk scene, which she calls home.
