You probably haven''t heard -- or heard of -- KENRON yet, because he hasn''t released much and he hasn''t gotten much exposure. But you need to. Immediately.
The Seattle based singer-songwriter, aka (Kenneth Renald) specializes in an intoxicating variety of deep, colorful, intro-spective pop that takes it''s cues from a number of post-modern rockers and lo-fi ''do it yourselfers''. His seductively, catchy guitar-rock style is definitely influenced by the avant-pop sounds of ''The Flaming Lips'' and post-punk heroes ''The Pixies'' with a more toned down lunacy. In fact, Kenron''s vocals alone are more of a nod to the sleepy, somber approach of Grandaddy front man ''Jason Lytle'' with a touch more sedation like ''Beck''. But, keep in mind these aren''t songs to fall asleep to. Kenron still serves up a fresh, interesting approach to everyday life experience with observation and satire. - All in a healthy dose of rock and pop.
The resulting effect is undeniably addicting. ''Kenron'' has a sound totally unto itself, yet it works according to all the rules of what makes good pop music. The guitar work on this album is at the core of the songs themselves.. keeping true to the fundamentals of traditional rock music -- chords and lyrics --. The acoustics and dynamics of Kenron''s guitar playing dance and move around eachother while the bass and drums on most of the tunes hold down the solidity and ''groove''. Some organ and keyboards are present, playful at times and usually accenting and adding to the melody in these creations. ''Eight creations actually'' - offered up in a classic, timeless piece of music that will always be relevant.
