Call it the music of Sandy!!
Her musical prowess earned her a 12-month scholarship to study double bass at Boston''s Berklee College in 1992. Upon returning to Adelaide, acknowledgment of her study earned her a Young Achievers Award. Having immersed herself in heavy jazz theory, the meld then got denser: singing backing vocals in pop bands, composing original tunes, jamming on bass in her beloved funk combos. "Doing all the bits kept me sane", she says with an easy smile "It stopped me becoming prejudiced in what music I embraced." She took a lyric writing course, learned how to step beyond a cliché to truly express inner thoughts, and suddenly a door opened for her. Her pop songs flourished, with ripe, poetic words unfolding to match the sophistication of her melodies and musical arrangements. Her time to emerge as the singer of her own material arrived.
Sandy has lived a life cradled in music. Her father blew reeds in a jazz band. Mother played piano at home, organ at church. There were classical piano lessons, then flute, then guitar. Sandy sang her favourite pop songs as they screened on music video programs. Swing played on the home stereo. Then she took up the bass, to jam with high school rock bands. It made perfect sense to Sandy that this entire music share equal portions of her attention and affection. Nothing has changed.
Since moving to Sydney in July ''95, Sandy meld into the jazz scene as a popular freelance bass player, but Sandy''s talents began to stretch beyond her bass playing. Her singer/songwriter skills led her to record and produce a 12-song debut CD titled Simple Pleasures, which received glowing reviews and airplay on Australian radio. She has also recently released a 5 song EP simply titled ''Sandy''- a collection of songs she co-produced with her award winning producer brother, Ashley Klose. At this moment, Sandy is in the process of writing new tunes for her third up and coming CD. Stay tuned!
Klose has showcased her compositions at Sydney''s leading original live music venues and is especially well known for her solo double bass/voice shows. She has toured South Korea, Japan, and played on cruise liners that sailed the South Pacific!
Currently Sandy is the bassist and backing vocalist for Australian pop artist, Wendy Matthews, who tours extensively throughout Australia.
