POP: Power Pop, ROCK: Modern Rock
Labb formed in 1996 when singer/guitarist Dana Labb met John Sares at UMASS-Amherst and played him a few songs. Gaining a large and loyal fan base with their thoroughly energetic live shows, Labb has consistently filled Boston area venues such as Bill's Bar, Harper's Ferry, The Middle East, The Paradise, and The Hard Rock Café to capacity. The band has shared the stage with many national acts, including Rustic Overtones, Punchline, P.O.D., Days of the New, Sister Seven, Dope, The Wine Field, Disturbed, Jeremiah Freed and The Tender Idols. Their debut, Sugar High was released in 2000 and earned the band acclaim and many new fans. The album was also licensed for use in 40 episodes of MTV's show "Undressed" and several songs have appeared on many nationally distributed CD compilations.
The group's new CD, "Driving Your Shadow", is the perfect follow up, and is already earning positive reviews and accolades. The CD was produced by Jimmy Robertson Landry, recorded at Newbury Sound in Boston, MA and mastered by Dale Penner (Nickelback). The band was recently named runner-up to the national winner in the final round of the WFNX Rolling Rock Town Fair Battle of the Bands, beating ten of Boston's top bands. Said The Noise of the new CD, "Labb has great pop songs, an irresistible sense of melody, a radio friendly sound, and some of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard. Labb's sound is twangy and dense, with pounding rhythms, and addictive hooks. The Bob Mould-ish vocal delivery and fresh, splashy production makes my ears smile. Having never heard of this band prior to this...I think I will now need to be a fan."
Labb is a power-packed quartet full of Jimmy Eat World-esque pop melodies and the fast-travelling frequencies of the Foo Fighters or Everclear. They will reel you in with barbed hooks of sunshine, remorse and circumstance all at the same time. Coupled with beautifully emotive and understanding lyrics, you cannot escape the catchy sounds of Labb, nor will you want to. Says https://www.tradebit.com; "...the music found on Driving Your Shadow is well suited for radio. This band certainly has a future, and if all goes well for them, they should see their evolution take them exactly where they want to go. Labb is definitely one band worth paying attention to."
