Details:
Born in El Paso, TX and currently living in Lafayette, IN, Amanda Fletcher is a 15 year old singer/songwriter and a member of the Songwriters Association of Mid-north Indiana (SAMI.) At age 14 she submitted her first song in a songwriting contest. Her entry, Who Are You Waiting For?, was well received and won first runner-up. Amanda was encouraged from this experience and spent the next year writing songs and honing her piano skills. After Amanda turned 15 in February 2008, she submitted one of her newest songs, entitled Moving On, to the scholarship committee. Amanda was the youngest winner of the Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters. This contest is held annually by SAMI for teens ages 14-19 in 13 central Indiana counties. Amanda explains, “Moving On is a song about where I want to go with my music someday.”
After receiving incredible support and encouragement from her fellow songwriters, Amanda subsequently started performing her original songs at various venues in her area. With the positive feedback and her drive to keep improving her craft, Amanda wrote several more songs drawing from her personal experiences and relationships.
In May 2008, Amanda contracted with Scott Greeson of Hoosier Surf Records and arranged to apply her scholarship money toward recording time in his studio with Malachi Jaggers coming onboard as engineer. Breaking Free is Amanda’s debut CD and is the result of those sessions.
Music is Amanda’s favorite pursuit. She enjoys writing songs and collaborating with other musicians. She has had her songs played on area radio stations, and hopes to one day have national recognition. With an army of supportive fans, musicians, friends, and family backing her, Amanda counts herself lucky.
