Dady Brothers quotes from press and individuals

City Newspaper Rochester NY Chuck Cuminale 1991
â The Dady Brothers are a local treasure, a Flower City institution, and two of the best musicians youâre likely to hear.
Theyâve been around for years, playing music clubs, resorts, outdoor festivals, and coffeehouses. Theyâre equally adept at playing folk, country, rock and roll or Irish music. Wherever and whenever they play they bring with them a professionalism, integrity and musical ability thatâs rare on the local scene.â

The Leader State College Fredonia, NY John Affleck 4/1/96
âDrawing from a seemingly endless well of energy the Dady Brothers poured forth two of the purest sets of Folk music.
John Dady has sparkling and distinctive voice is joined by his brother and âbest friendâ, Joe who played a possessed fiddle and (sic) flailed merrily on his banjo.â

Limerick Press Ireland Limerick Music and Magic Expo 5/97
âOver the last twenty years or more, The Dady Brothers from Rochester NY, have been playing folk- roots music and bringing it in an authentic and enjoyable way to audiences around the world.â

Press and Sun- Bulletin Binghamton, NY 11/18/99
âIf you want the real deal in Irish music, these are the brothers to do it allâ

City Newspaper Rochester NY 1/4/2000 CD review by Rob Cullivan
âAt this point in their career, Rochesterâs Dady Brothers seem incapable of producing anything but quality folk, traditional, and Irish music. Singing from the Heart is a beautiful tribute to the music the boys find most moving, from Dixieland to Celtic. This is great mix of modern sounds and old-fashioned musical integrity.â

The Savannah Irish Festival Program Savannah, Georgia
âThe Dady Brothers have been a mainstay of the Savannah Irish Festival for many years. Their outstanding performances onstage, coupled with their wonderful outgoing personalities make them one of the favorite groups from past festivalsâ Talent runs deep in this family; between the two of them, you wonât find an instrument they canât play.â

Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts
âJoe and John Dady consistently win praise for their musicianship and presentation. Their style blends fiddle, mandolin, whistle, guitar, bodhran, banjo, harmonica and uilleann pipes to deliver a superb fusion of Irish and American roots music.â

Dunkirk Observer Matt Surtel 3/14/99
âJohn and Joe Dady are possibly the best purveyors of Irish music. They performed their distinctive mix of folk, Irish and bluegrass to a crowed and enthusiastic room at the Fredonia Opera House.â

City Newspaper Chuck Cuminale 11/99
â The Dady Brothers occupy a unique position in the Rochester music scene. They have a fan base that transcends generations, and seem to please all members of this age diverse group simultaneously.â

Landmark Society Rochester NY 2000
âSongs of the Erie Canalâ 2000,

Tommy Makem 1991 âThe Dady Brothers have it all, Taste to select good materiel; talent to perform that music excellently, to the delight of their audiences; and the dedication to keep their materiel and performances to the highest standards.â

Simon Pontin Senior Producer WXXI-FM Rochester NY

Mitzie Collins hammered dulcimer virtuoso, record producer and folk music legend
âThe Dady Brothers bring genuineness and honest, as well as humor and virtuosity to their performances-whether for a festival crowd or a classroom. They love folk music and love to perform. Their song repertoire ranges from historic ballads to the most recently composed.â

Emo Phillips Comedian
âDo you guys know any Klezmer?â

Rick Dougherty of the The Kingston Trio 2007
âThe Dady Brothers have wonderful instrumental work and harmonies.
The variety of music they play including guitar, mandolin, violin, bodhran and octave mandolin gives their music a lot of texture and their humor is truly delightful. Theyâre fine musicians and the nicest couple of guys youâd want to be stuck in an airport with.â

âSing Out!â Magazine Volume 44 Michael Parrish (CD review)
âThe Dady Brothers are strong singers in the Irish ballad tradition as well as good pickers, they have attracted some impressive guests, notably Tommy and Rory Makem, and dobroist Kevin Maul. The pair arenât afraid to embellish their roots music with creative instrumental touches. A highlight is âThe Man with the Banjoâ their stirring and affectionate tribute to Pete Seeger.â

My Most Important Day (school paper by Ryan Nation)
âMy most important day was when I played my violin with the Dady Brothersâ

Liam Clancy âWe were waiting to go on-stage when we heard what we thought was a locomotive roaring through the hotel.â
(On- stage comment after the Dadys opened for Makem and Clancy Buffalo 1984)

Mark Cuddy Artistic Director Geva Theatre Center
âWhat they bring to âQuiltersâ and our band is immediate authenticity of Folk musicians, you can hear their music in the background like itâs Ken Burns. They
bring that great medium of stories and telling of stories through pieces of music rather than just expressing a feeling.â

Frank Emerson Folk Singer âBetween them, Joe and John play eight instruments and are about as talented as they come with a variety of music style from traditional Irish to Rock.â

Simon Pontin Senior Producer WXXI-FM Rochester NY
âWhen you think of Irish Music, you think of the Dady Brothers. For over thirty years the brothers have devoted their lives to music and have become the preeminent folk group in Rochester.â

Rick Danko of The legendary The Band 1980
âYou guys werenât just my opening act you were a part of my show. I want you to
be in my movie!â

City Newspaper Frank DeBlase 3/08
âWhether itâs Wednesday night crowd at Johnnyâs, kids clapping and singing along at a school performance, or crowds in Ireland, where the Dadys tour annually, the accessibility and appeal of their Irish folk is undeniable and immense. They have mastered Irish musicâs deceptive simplicity and charm.â
