History

Founding members Steve Harley and James Bond are veterans of the East Coast Canadian music scene. After enjoying ECMA success with Devora in 1998, their next effort as Sweet Tooth gained them critical acclaim. Sweet Tooth''s release "Gimme Some" achieved Canadian national
distribution, regional radio and internet airplay and reached the top ten in several funk internet charts. The band then played nearly every room in the Maritime circuit over the next 5 years, including regional tours with fellow Canadian rockers Wide Mouth Mason (the "Stew" tour) and Big Sugar ("Heated"). In 2004, Harley and Bond started their next original recording project, Remedy,
whose single "Completely Turned Around" was published on the Maritime Home Grown CD later that year. More recently, Remedy has just finished it''s full-length debut album, "paleofidelity", in the spring of 2008.
In January 2008 Gil Roy joined the group to establish the trio format for Remedy''s live show. Gil had spent over 17 years as a touring musician throughout Canada and the US. He''s played with such names as Jimmy Dooley formally of The Platters, Full Circle and most recently with Hal Bruce and the Hired Hand Band. This trio format is how the music of the album is presented.

The Music

Remedy''s genre is primarily defined as funk-rock. There are elements of blues, R&B, reggae, mainstream rock, acid rock, adult alternative pop rock, and occasional hints funk-a-delic techno in the recordings. The bands sound is influnced by artists ranging from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stevie Wonder to Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz
and The Police.

The Songs of Paleofidelity

The backbone of the songwriting came from first finding the basic drum/bass groove. This rhythmic, kinetic energy was the nucleus around which all of the songs initially formed. After creating over 100 such grooves, a process that involved recording all of the original free-form songwriting jams, the favorites were then picked,
and became the final songs of "paleofidelity".
In many cases, the guitar and bass tracks that were captured on tape during the initial writing phase were used in the final versions of the songs. In this way, the energy, freshness, and emotion of the birth of these songs was preserved right up to the final production.
As the album title suggests, we were not going for pristine production value, and wanted the core of the songs to be the focus, and did not get caught up in bells and whistles. Despite a more lo-fi approach than with previous recording efforts, the record has an engaging and
endearing sound that cuts straight to the gut and the heart, and delivers each song effectively. Look for a couple of "hidden" tracks on the record.

The Live Show

The power trio of Steve Harley (vocals, guitar), James Bond (bass), and Gil Roy (drums, backing vocals) make up the core of the Remedy live show. This unit plays an energetic, intense, and intimately-tight presentation of the songs off the record. This format has been successful in conveying the bands unique brand and style and has slowly built up it''s own grass-roots following in the clubs and special venues of it''s home town in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band has also been active in 2 charitable
associations locally, doing a number of shows for both Soundwaves, and the Music for Good society, supporting oxfam, african aid, breast cancer research, and other local charities. While the band focuses mostly on it''s own original material, featuring songs from paleofidelity as well as new material and songs from previous, recordings it also dips into a well of covers that has influenced the band''s sound, such as songs by Jimi
Hendrix, The Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, Matchbox 20 and The Police.
