YOUNG GENT is from Fayetteville, North Carolina. This was where he started to develop as an artist. He was raised only by his mother. Growing up he and his family dealt with an array of struggles to survive. His mother was working constantly to support her children so this left time and opportunity for Young Gent to explore his depressing surroundings. He grew up in neighborhoods filled with drugs, violence, and broken dreams. As he witnessed many things take place that may have scarred some others, it began to shape what Young Gent is today.
As he came into his late teens he began to become a statistic of his environment. After some time and growth several events changed his way of thinking and the direction of his life. Poetry, which he once held as a secret outlet to release thoughts and emotions began to take on another form for him. He began flowing with the same energy and concepts over music. People around him began to take notice and encouraged him to pursue music with passion and determination. Being a lover of many different types of music Young Gent began experimenting with different forms of music placing rap on a back burner, for fear that rapping certain lyrics constantly would drive him back into a life he had turned down.
Fortunately, for hip-hop lovers as time passed, he grew mentally and spiritually. He was able to face his fear of returning to a life of hatred, anger, and carelessness. Instead he has become able to rap about his experiences and have fun with it while entertaining listeners with witty punchlines, cunning delivery, smart lyrics, impressive arrangements, and a presence that is felt even through speakers.
Now a resident of Wilmington, NC he has developed into a formidable asset to the music industry. He is an arranger, composer, performer, writer and even an actor.
