"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:14, 15 NKJ)
"Somebody once told me that integrity is how you act when nobody''s watching," explains Aaron Moses, lead singer for Lift. "None of us in this band is perfect by any means, but we know that we can''t play and sing our songs, or play any worship music, and expect to have any kind of effectiveness, if our relationship with God is off kilter. We want people to like our music and have fun at our shows and all that, but we really want what we''re doing as Lift to mean something. We really do look at this as our ministry, and we just can''t do it unless God is at the center of who we are as people."
Lift is a modern rock worship band that is all about bringing the message of God''s love through Jesus Christ to His children and the unsaved world alike, through contemporary music. Lyrics proclaim God''s sacrifice for us, His desire to be with us, His understanding of our troubles, encouragement for God''s children to follow Him and know him more, and the promise of a heavenly eternity for His children. It is the heart of Lift to know God on a personal level and in a real way, to allow His Spirit to move through each band member, both on and off the stage, so as to glorify God and share His love to His people.
Sonically, Lift derives its sound from punk/ post punk influences, with a modern rock and pop twist. Songs range from aggressive, heavy rock power punches to soft, floating ballads. Aaron Moses and Aaron Helmes, the band''s original members, interweave rich, melodic and distorted tones with duo Les Pauls though Mesa Boogie amps, creating their unique, complimentary rock guitar sound. Having been playing in various bands since 1993, Moses and Helmes have been developing their style of playing together since early teens. The vocals of Moses and the backing vocals of Helmes are sung, shouted, screamed, or whispered from worshipful hearts. Originally a two-piece, and accompanied by electronic sequences, Lift has since filled out to a monster rock, organic sound with the acquisition of new members Zach Campbell and Buddy Seppala. With Campbell slamming down brick solid beats and Seppala blasting the low end, the new rhythm section of Lift adds a layer of depth and life to the music, propelling the songs into the hearts of audiences and listeners alike.
Fueled by encouraging responses and sales for the band''s first album "We Are Set Free" Lift continues to play shows in and around the Portland, OR metro area, having already played with such bands as Telecast, Falling Up, The Rock and Roll Worship Circus, and Justifide. With a host of new material, early plans are being made to release a second album in spring of ''06.
"We''re so excited about where we''re at right know, where God is leading us, both spiritually and musically," explains Moses. "We''re more excited then ever about playing live, to see other people who really, sincerely love Jesus and love to rock out in their worship. We''re also so much clearer about what we want to bring to a live show situation. God has allowed us to play for such an amazing range of people; I can''t get over what He''s doing with this band as a ministry. We want to make the most of every opportunity He gives us. We just want to lead people into His presence, and allow Him to reveal Himself to us all."
