Tee Fee Swamp Boogie
Description: Tee Fee Swamp Boogie will lift you off your feet with a sound that is American Swamp Boogie at its best. The sweet licks of the guitar combined with scorching, funky fiddle and soaring four part vocal harmonies create a sound that makes you want to jump up and dance. So dust off your two steppin’ boots and get ready for a treat while Tee Fee kicks it into high gear. The name Tee Fee is taken from Clifton Chenier’s Hey Tee Fee (Hey Little Girl) which is what the creole guys used to yell at Annie (the band leader) and Linda (the bassist) at dances. In a venue where bands are usually led by men, Tee Fee continued on the example given by Queen Ida Guillory with a female band leader and a sound that is unique and refreshing and hot!

History:
Annie Marie and bassist Linda Schmidt started the Tee Fee Swamp Boogie in 1992 along with rub-board player Ledra Guillory (Queen Ida’s daughter). Annie has been leading the band, writing originals, arranging traditional tunes, singing lead and playing fiddle and accordion for Tee Fee ever since. When Leonard Gill (guitarist for BB King, bassist for Otis Rush and Otis Clay) joined the band in ’93, Tee Fee was able to fully incorporate the blues into the bands’ repertoire and they focused on integrating tunes from Gatemouth Brown, Koko Taylor and Canray Fontonot into their playlist. In ’94, with the addition of the bluesy vocals and awesome drumming of Kelvin Dixon (John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush), and the soaring vocal harmonies of rub board player Maureen Coyle (the Bunyups), Tee Fee’s sound was established. Tee Fee’s venues include the main stage at the Shoreline Amphitheater New Orleans by the Bay, the Marin County and Santa Cruz Blues Festivals, Slims in San Francisco, and Bumbershoot in Seattle along with numerous local clubs and dances. With the passing of guitarist Leonard Gill in Oct. 06, Tee Fee is now enjying the amazing guitar work of Kevin Suto.

Band: Annie Marie Howard Byrd: fiddle, accordion, lead vocals, song writer, arranger, band leader

Annie Marie, from Houston, Texas has been performing professionally since she was 12. She toured Europe, the US, and Canada with various groups where her scorching vocals and funky fiddle virtuosity won her many fans. She paid her dues playing fiddle for numerous country dances throughout the West and was lead vocalist for the Smokin’ Section jazz band for 5 years. In 1993, the West Coast Cajun & Zydeco Music & Dance Association presented her with both the Rising Star Award and the Best Original Zydeco Song award for writing “Where You Is?”. During the 90’s Annie also played fiddle and toured with Queen Ida and her Zydeco Band and performed at the Chicago Blues Festival with the late great bluesman Johnny Heartsman. In 1996 she received the Queen Ida Guillory Women in Music Award and in 1997 an award for her original song, “Don’t Let It Get You!!”. Annie also played fiddle and toured with Queen Ida and her Zydeco Band. Annie was recently recognized by the California Friends of Louisiana French Music for her ongoing support and promotion of Bay Area Cajun and Zydeco music both as the band leader of Tee Fee and as a Cajun Fiddler.

Leonard W. Gill:guitarist, background vocals
Leonard is the guitarist on these recordings but passed away on October 4, 2006. He is sorely missed. Leonard’s amazing guitar playing gave Tee Fee its unique sound. He was born in Sherrill, Arkansas, and later moved with his family to the south side of Chicago. His musical career began early in Chicago where he performed with Johnny Taylor, Little Milton, Albert King, Otis Clay, and B.B. King. He recorded two albums with Otis Clay, two with B.B. King, one with Ron Thompson, five with Tee Fee Swamp Boogie and played and toured extensively. He also played with Ronnie Stewart,, Al Rapone, East Bay Mudd, Ron Thompson & The Resisters, John Lee Hooker, Queen Ida, Rockin'' Sydney, Allen Fontenot, and Maria Muldaur. His music lives on both in the recordings he made and in the musicians he inspired and taught.

LindaSchmidt:bass,backgroundvocals
Linda Schmidt, began her cajun-zydeco career under the tutelage of bassist-accordionist Billy Wilson and the late, great accordionist Danny Poullard. Band credits include bassist with Motor Dude Zydeco, California Cajun Orchestra, and rhythm guitarist for the Bayou Pon Pon trio. In 1996 she won the Queen Ida Guillory Women in Music Award for co-founding Tee Fee. Linda’s solid bass playing provides the foundation for a Tee Fee’s great dance sound!

He has played with John Lee Hooker, Charles Brown, Otis Rush, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas and Irma Thomas, toured and recorded with Sylvester, Two Tons of Fun (Weathergirls), Tom Mazzolini''s Blues Cavalcade, Otis Rush, Lady Bianca, and Joe Louis Walker among others.
